How We Met
Zane and I met our junior year of high school in ceramics class at sixteen years old. Looking back to that moment now, seven and a half years ago, it was both so clear to us that we were going to be something special in each others lives. One look at each other as I walked in the door and we both just knew. We both still remember that moment when our met so vividly. We didn’t know right at that moment that we would be each other’s forever loves, but it definitely didn’t take long before we were each other’s best friends, one and only loves, and other half of each others hearts.
How They Asked
We had a plan to go to one of our favorite restaurants in Crystal Cove that night and when we got there, the sun was close to setting so Zane suggested that we go walk across the street to the trails on the cliffs over looking the ocean. Of course I was easy to convince, being that this is my favorite thing to do and one of my favorite places to be. As we walked hand and hand along the path that was lined with yellow wild flowers, I had a strong feeling in my gut that he might propose…but of course, I was trying as hard as I could to not get my hopes up.
As we turned a corner, I saw one hundred plus photos strung with twine along the fence. One hundred plus photos of all the memories the two of us have made together since we were sixteen years old! Seven and a half years of our favorite moments together, all hand strung by Zane, and displayed to remind us how far we’ve come and how much we have grown together. People who know me, know that I LOVE pictures and documenting memories…so that fact that he was so thoughtful to add this touch meant so much.
We kissed and hugged, he told me how much he loved me, got down on one knee, and I said YESSS (big shocker lol)! Then we kissed and hugged some more and I was in complete shock that the moment we had been talking and dreaming about for so long had actually HAPPENED! I’m a pretty emotional person and it doesn’t take much for me to shed a happy tear, so I was very surprised that I had dry eyes the whole time! I totally envisioned myself being a complete teary mess, but I think because it was such a surreal experience I was just in shock and all that I felt in that moment all I felt was pure JOY. The kind of joy where your heart and pounding and your hands are shaking and you’re smiling so big your cheeks hurt!
Then, my sister Julia and one of my best friend’s sister, Mary Claire, popped out of the bushes where they were hiding taking pictures and documenting the whole moment. We all excitedly freaked out together, took lots of pictures, and stared at my beyond PERFECT, sparkly, stunning ring.
I truly couldn’t have asked for anything more than everything that moment was. It was so thoughtfully planned out and every last detail was accounted for. From my ring custom designed by Zane and the jewelry company my mom works for, to having someone dear to me take our photos, my sister being there and helping Zane set up, and the beautiful location.. it was everything I could have ever dreamed of and so much more. I’m still getting used to this sparkly thang on my finger and being called “fiancée”, and am so beyond stoked to marry my one and only love and best friend!
