Kaley and Josiah
How We Met
Josiah and I met in the 5th grade at the local ice rink. He played hockey and I figure skated. We had a brief middle school “relationship” and I vividly remember the phone call we had where we decided to just be friends. Before hanging up, Josiah said to me, “Maybe we can try again when we are older.” Fast forward to junior year of high school and physics class. Josiah and I sat by each other and I had been seriously crushing on him! (I thought he was so genuine and CUTE!) He was a little oblivious to the fact that I was into him so I finally decided to just ask him to attend a party with me the following weekend. The party came and went and we had totally hit it off and began to hang out!
After a month, or so, he asked my brother, (they’re great friends!) if it was okay to date me because he didn’t want to cross any boundaries. (SO sweet) Just over six years later, here we are! We were fortunate to spend our college days together in the same city and we love that we have been able to experience such a quickly paced time of life together. For the past 5 1/2 years, every night before bed, we say one thing about each other that we like. I love that we continue our own traditions and are always looking to find new ways to show our love and appreciation for each other! We are each other’s favorite travel buddy and are constantly itching for new adventures! We love red wine, Spanish food, the ocean, dogs, late night TV, the outdoors, playing games, and of course, each other!
how they asked
The plan was to “celebrate my birthday early just the two of us” since we would be spending my actual birthday with a few friends. Josiah insisted on picking me up so he could cook us dinner at his house and once we got outside to the car he told me we were actually going to go for a walk. Along our walk, attached trees, were little notes under photos of us through out our six wonderful years together!
I gathered 7 incredibly sweet photos + notes from Josiah by the time we reached the park where we sledded together as kids. The final note was attached to a sled and said, “Let’s go for a ride”. We took the sled down the hill together like we did years ago and at the bottom he told me, like he has every day, how much he loves me and then how he wanted to spend forever together.
He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!! I had been waiting for this day and here it was, actually happening! I could barely see the ring because I was so emotional ha! Engraved on my ring is “on the branch together forever”, in reference to the bird necklace I’ve worn for the past 5 years from Josiah. It couldn’t have been more personable and “us”!
