How We Met
It all started in middle school I was 13 and Jake was 15, to me there was nothing better than his goofy and fun personality. We thought we were in love, little didn’t we know love wasn’t even in our vocabulary at that point. We “dated” for a few months (if you can even call it dating… more like friends who held hands sometimes). We decided to go our separate ways (kind of dramatic for being in middle school). We dated other people at the beginning of high school but remained GREAT friends; all thanks to fine-arts. Somehow we found our way back to each other around the end of my sophomore year.
We spent ALL summer together (it was kind of forced, because of fine-arts but we are both eternally grateful. I wasn’t completely sold at this point but he had definitely started to tug at my heart strings. From June of 2013 until March of 2014 Jake spent his time trying to convince me he was the one. He made me CDs professing his love, came to soccer games, and was VERY persistent in trying to get me to hangout with him. I knew he was the one but I wasn’t sure if I was ready to be “tied down” at 17 years old. We like to call that time period my “crazy” days, but Jake loved me through it all.
He kind of saved me in a way. On March 19, 2014 in a Taco Bell parking lot (romantic I know) we promised each other forever. I would have married that boy right there in that moment. Over the last few years we have made mistakes, grown immensely individually and together, been there for each other when the world felt like it was crumbling to pieces, we’ve cried together, laughed until we couldn’t breathe, traveled to two different countries and five states, and we have loved our hearts out. It’s not easy starting young and growing together but it has been more than rewarding.
how they asked
On December 9th, 2017 my life became brighter than I ever imagined. We had planned a trip with a few of our closest friends to Blue Ridge, Georgia. We stayed in the mountains on a lakefront property, it was absolutely breath taking. Months before we left for the trip we thought it would be a good idea to take some friend pictures while we were in the mountains and it just so happens that one of our friends is a photographer.
So fast forward to the trip, on day one we went into town and dressed up (color coordination of course) and we planned to come back home and do the pictures because the lighting would be better. Little did I know that this whole photo shoot was all for us. Everyone knew but me. Before I was awake everything was already set up.
Jake strung pictures from our whole relationship on pine trees that led down to the water front. He began to talk about all of the time we have spent together and how far we have come since the beginning. Once we walked through the path filled with our favorite memories he looked into my eyes completely filled with tears, knelt to one knee and asked me to be his wife.
Sobbing the happiest tears you have ever seen, I said yes. It was the best moment of my life. Our friends were there to celebrate the rest of the night and week.
Such a great beginning to the best vacation.
