Kaitlyn and Mike
How We Met
Mike and I met at a church function. Our church hosts a weekly activity for college-aged members in the area. The activity changes each week and lucky us, the activity that week was speed dating and we hit it off. We hung out quite a bit after that and started dating and just a few short weeks later I knew I could see myself marrying him. We love trying new things together! I want to be a chef and he is always in the kitchen with me helping me. We love hiking, hammocking, camping, really anything that has to do with the outdoors! We love to be goofy and laugh together! I admire how driven he is. He does everything he sets his mind to no matter what obstacles are in his way. I love how supportive he is of me and my goals. I have gone through many different future plans and goals and he has been so supportive and always enables me to reach my goals.
how they asked
This requires a little backstory. Mike and I live in Logan, Ut while we attend Utah State University. Neither of us has family in the area, but he lived here when he was little and he has a friend who he has been close with since 3rd grade named Missy. Her family has taken Mike in as one of their own while he has been living here for years without any family close by, and have also extended that same love to me.
Mike and I went over to Missy’s parents’ house for our weekly tradition of watching an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Her mom came and asked if we would be willing to go pick up their truck from a construction site just up the road. She made excuses for why it was there and why they couldn’t go get it and asked if we could go get it. It didn’t even seem like an odd request to me at the time, but in hindsight, I should have seen it coming! Mike, Missy and I hopped in the car and drove up to a breathtaking spot with the most gorgeous view of our city and the sunset. I love watching sunsets and I’ll drop whatever I’m doing to watch a sunset.
When Mike and I were discussing marriage, I told him he could propose however he wanted, but it needed to include the sunset. We pulled up to the truck and hoped out of our car, but instead of getting in, Mike directed me to the back of the truck, where I saw the truck lined with blankets and pillows, decorated with greenery and candles, chocolates and 2 64 oz drinks that were labeled as “Mr. Packham” and “Future Mrs. Packham”. This is when I realized what was happening, and Mike leads me over to another decorated spot with a gorgeous bouquet and a blanket laid out on some rocks.
He sat me down, told me how much he loved me and asked if I would be his wife. I was ecstatic to tell him yes! Missy’s sister Kristi is a photographer and we knew we wanted to use her for the wedding, so Mike had set up with her to be there to photograph the whole thing. Kristi gave us a quick photo shoot, then Missy and Kristi left us to enjoy those few moments of being engaged, and watching the sunset, alone together. It was absolutely perfect.
