Kaitlin and Steve's Amazing Marriage Proposal Video

9How We Met: Steve and I have gone to school together since second grade. However, we did not actually meet until 9th grade at one of our mutual friend’s lockers. From the moment I saw him I knew he was the one. I went home that day and told my mom, “I found the guy I am going to marry”. She said “what’s his name??” I replied, “Steve”. She said, “Steve who?” But I hadn’t gotten that far yet. It is safe to say that all of my friends and family knew about the huge crush I had on Steve. Steve never really comments on it but I know he knew too. We were in different grades so we had a few mutual friends but our friend groups did hang out quite a bit. We really didn’t have a conversation until the end of my junior year of high school. Neither of us remember how it started but one summer we just started talking and it all clicked. He went off to college and I stayed at home for my senior year. After I graduated I joined him at college and we dated for the next 4 years. After college we moved in together in and have been setting up our happy home for the past 2 years.

how they asked: I had told Steve that I wanted to be engaged by my 25th birthday. The day was getting closer and closer and I still hadn’t found any clues or managed to crack any of my friendsusabout what he was doing. I had told Steve that I needed my best friend there to celebrate with me. She lived in Boston so I knew that it had to be a time when she was home.

We had plans to get our nails done for a wedding she was in and then were going to go see a movie after. I was suspicious at first but after she showed me the receipt for the movie tickets my suspicions went away. My friends were asking me to hang out so I knew there was no way for it to be happening that night. We went to the nail salon and everything seemed completely normal. When we were leaving my best friend took me to her car to look at some new clothes she had purchased.

She went into her trunk and instead of pulling out new clothes, she pulled out 18 red roses and said, “It’s starting!” I immediately began backing up and freaking out. She told me that there was no time for that and we had to hurry! We walked around the building to find a white SVU limo waiting for us. She handed me a hand written card from Steve that explained I was no longer going to the movies and that I was on my way to get my hair done. As I was reading I began crying and begging my friend to tell me where we were going. She denied my request but handed me a bottle of champagne instead!

The limo began moving and soon we were at a house I’ve never seen before. Out walked my hair dresser from the front door and I ran up to her right away and gave her a huge hug! We went in her house and within 25 minutes I was walking back out to the limo. As I was leaving she handed me another 18 roses and a new note. This note explained that Steve knew I probably wore jeans and a tshirt to work (he was right!) so I needed a new outfit before I could come meet him. We went to the mall around us and I got to pick out a brand new dress, shoes, and accessories. Back into the limo I went with one last note.

It was Steve saying how he was so excited to see me and to hurry! I tried my very best to take in every moment of the ride before I was to meet Steve. I had no idea where I was going but knew it couldn’t be long until the big moment. As the limo began slowing down I looked around to see park that I had never been to before. My best friend asked me if I was ready and I slowly stepped out of the limo. As we walked up a path into the park I was prepared to see Steve in front of me.

But instead there was a large projector, more roses, and a computer. My best friend looked at me and said, “press play when you are ready”….

I looked at her and smiled with tears in my eyes as I approached the computer. On the screen was a picture of us from years before. I slowly hit the play button.

*Side note* I had told Steve about 1000 times that I wanted to be engaged to the Ed Sheeran song, “Thinking Out Loud”.* As soon as I hit the play button a complete range of our friends and family began appearing on the screen. Parents, brothers, sisters, friends from all over the country. They were saying things like “the day is finally here!” and “we knew this day would always come”.

I immediately began sobbing knowing the time and effort that went into making this video for this very moment. Best friends from elementary school, friends from college, and more. I watched intently as each new person came on the screen and wished us well and huge congratulations. As the end of the video neared my friends voices began to fade and the song that I wished so long for was finally playing. As it began I felt a gentle touch on my right shoulder. I turned around to see Steve. He said so many thoughtful and heartfelt words as we were standing there. Finally, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

I wrapped my arms around him and said, “absolutely!” As I peered over his shoulder I saw, from behind the large hill, 40 of our closest family and friends running towards me.

I buried my head in his chest and began crying all over again. All of the most important people were there with us to celebrate our big moment. It was the most magical day of my life.
