How We Met
Polo and I grew up in the same town in New York since we were little and have always had the same circle of friends since we were teenagers. At one point I had a boyfriend, he had a girlfriend but we definitely had an eye for each other. When we found out we were both single we began hanging out more with our group of friends. After a trip to the city with our friends one night we both reached to change the radio station at the same time and our hands touched, for some reason it felt like sparks went through my whole body. After our hands met, we couldn’t let go of each other. From that point on we have been dating and have become each other’s best friend. We cannot go a day without speaking or seeing one another. When we are together we bring out the best in each other. We truly are each other’s soul mates.
how they asked
Polo and I have been together for six years. We have always talked about getting married and having babies but when the time is right. I have been working full time and going to college full time trying to finish my degree in education, which has been a struggle but he has been 100% supportive and helpful throughout my journey. I just graduated college at the end of May, which was a huge accomplishment for me. We have always talked about settling down once I was finished with school. One day while I was at work, Polo went to speak to my parents to ask them for my hand in marriage. He had a long talk with my parents and both, my mother and my father had given him their blessing to propose.
Polo had booked a romantic getaway vacation to Mexico in June to celebrate my graduation. Our third day on this beautiful resort, Polo told me he booked us a romantic dinner on the beach just the two of us. We had gotten ready and started walking to the beach. There was a trail of rose petals on the beach once we got there and I said to him “wow, how beautiful they put rose petals leading up to the table?” And he said yes just keep walking.
As we kept walking through the trail of rose petals he started telling me how much he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Before I knew it, I froze and saw “WILL YOU MARRY ME KAITLIN?” written in rose petals in the sand.
He turned around in front of me and got on his knees and I automatically started crying and couldn’t believe what was happening. He asked me to marry him with photographers hiding in the bushes where I couldn’t see them to capture the special moment so we can save these memories to share with our family and friends back home.
After I cried like a baby and said yes of course, he put the thumbs up to someone behind me and I turned around and there was about 10 staff members of the hotel who helped him set up the entire thing watching and waiting to see my response.
Then the photographers came out of the bushes and surprised me as well and asked us if we wouldn’t mind doing a small photo shoot. It was the most perfect proposal from the most perfect man, it was so well planned and so thoughtful the way he did it. I could not have thought of a better love story to come home and share with my family and friends. I get to marry my best friend.
