How We Met
Brian and I actually met through an online dating site – Match.com. I was so hesitant for the longest time to join the online dating world, but I worked in an office full of women at the time, didn’t go out a ton on the weekends, and I had a few people in my life find love online so I decided to finally give it a try. Brian was the first person I connected with who I actually wanted to meet up with in person (I did a lot of vetting beforehand!). He had been on the site for a few months with no luck. After about a week of messaging back and forth and one phone call, we met up for drinks in September 2014 and both felt an instant connection. We had such a great time that we went out for dinner the following evening, and the rest is history!
how they asked
Brian and I met and live in San Diego, CA, but he was sweet enough to propose in my home state of Massachusetts so that I’d be able to celebrate with my family afterward! We were vacationing there in August 2016 and the morning after we flew in, he told me he’d found a place for us to have lunch right near the Cape Cod Canal. I showered, got dressed and we headed out together. We parked and started out on what I thought was a short walk along the canal before heading to the restaurant, and about a minute in I looked up and saw the cutest bistro table set up with champagne and white roses (my favorite!).
I turned to Brian and said, “That’s cute, look what someone did over there.” He responded with, “Well, that’s actually for us.”
It clicked with me what was happening and we walked together toward the table where he got down on one knee and proposed.
We were both emotional – laughing, crying, hugging.
He planned the perfect proposal in the perfect location, all from the opposite coast.
With the help of Jamie from Cape Cod Celebrations, he had thought of every detail.
We had a nice picnic lunch, toasted each other with some bubbly, and even had a pair of cute bikes (that matched our table décor!) to ride along the canal afterward.
He hired a photographer to capture the moment as well, and we now have some beautiful pictures with the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge in the background that we’ll always be able to look back on and remember how special that day was for us.
I’m still in awe that Brian was able to pull off the most sweet, thoughtful, special proposal. I’m usually pretty aware of what’s going on around me, but I truly had no idea.
