How We Met

I am a little biased, but our love story is one of my favorites. I met Aryan way back in October of 2005 when we both worked at Best Buy. I was a junior in high school and started working there in the fall. He had recently graduated high school and was working there while attending college. Aryan’s cousin Sepe started working there at the same time that I did and we became friends. On Halloween we were working and allowed to wear costumes to work, that was the first time I met Aryan. Sepe introduced me to him and I remember this night extremely well because he was wearing a grass hula skirt haha. After that moment we became instant friends. I can easily say I have never become friends with someone so fast in my whole life, we were inseparable.

At the time Aryan and I were both in other relationships and were strictly just great friends. After both relationships ended Aryan expressed that he had feelings for me, I told him that I didn’t feel the same and that I only liked him as a friend. Our friendship continued and we did almost everything together: went to the movies, out to dinner, hung out late at night, he would even bring me Starbucks on my lunch break at school.

One night when he was leaving my house, he gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and ran to his car and drove off. I was completely taken aback as I still only liked him as a friend, I was so nervous to confront him at work the next day. I told him how we were just friends and he was okay with that because he didn’t want me not in his life. A couple of months later, when we were hugging each other goodnight, he whispered in my ear that he loved me. It is amazing to hear those words but I felt terrible that I didn’t feel the same way he did as I STILL just saw him as friend. He is honestly the most patient, understanding guy in the world because he understood I didn’t feel the same and still wanted to hang out with me.

Nearing the end of December of 2006, after over a year of being best friends, we went and saw the movie The Holiday in theaters. After the movie, we were at my house and I realized that I was head over heels in love with him. It was an amazing feeling and I looked him straight in the eyes and said ” I have something to tell you and you aren’t going to believe me…… I love you.” After that moment, we waited until New Years to make our relationship official and of course, he made me ask him to be my boyfriend since I made him wait for so long.

We have been happily together now for almost 13 years, we have a dog, bought a house and he made me do my fair share of waiting for him to finally ask me the big question!

How They Asked

Sunday, October 6th, 2019 Aryan told me we had a work dinner we had to go to that night with his colleagues. I asked him to get us out of it because we were leaving early in the morning that Tuesday for Montreal for his cousin’s wedding and we still had so much packing to do. He said he couldn’t get us out of it and we had to attend. Annoyed as I was I got fully ready and picked something business casual to wear. I was slightly nervous since this was the first time I would be meeting his boss and coworkers. Luckily I had recently got my nails done the day before as part of my vacation prep.

We drove to the spot the restaurant was supposed to be and it just seemed to be a park in downtown Portland. I was slightly confused and he said we just had to walk down this one path to the restaurant. As weird as I thought that was, I went with it because I had never been to this part of town. The park is called Cathedral Park and has these huge arches that support a bridge that goes over the whole park. We start walking down these stairs and then he stops me when we get under the main arch and turns me towards him.

He looks me in the eyes and says “There is no dinner, and I know you wanted this to happen in Disneyland…..” at that moment I knew exactly what was happening. Out of the corner of my eye I see one of my best friends (who is a professional photographer) pop out of nowhere with her camera and I instantly start crying. I couldn’t believe this moment was finally here. It was simply the greatest moment of my life. The man of my dreams, my best friend, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and without hesitation (and through many happy tears) I said YES!
