How We Met
Alex & I met on a dating app. There, I said it. No made up “meet-cute” – but looking back, our story was pretty damn romantic. After about a month of messaging back & forth, & scheduling conflicts – we finally met one Friday night at a food truck fair in San Francisco. When we first saw each other, his hands were glued to the inside of his pockets & there was an awkward “nice to meet you”. When he offered to buy me a beer – I went for the ole’ “wallet grab” – which he fell for. (I bought my own beer that night).
So we were off to a great start. But then the conversation started flowing & when he asked if I wanted to go to a bar for another drink, I immediately said yes. It was the parallel parking on a San Francisco hill that did me in & that night, we closed down the bar. He held out texting me for a whole day after we first met – but after that, I don’t think a day went by where we didn’t speak. And 3.5 years later, here we are!
how they asked
We had a friend’s wedding in San Francisco over Labor Day weekend & decided to make a trip out of it. We were going to drive to Carmel By-The-Sea the day after – a special place for us & one of the first trips we ever went on together. Alex was insistent on leaving early the morning after the wedding (which is very unlike him, as his hangovers usually require late starts).
The plan was to go on a hike as soon as we got in. As we neared closer & closer to Point Lobos, I noticed his hands were abnormally sweaty & clammy for the chilly Northern California coastal temperature. He then started making some strange “throat-clearing” noises & refused water. We started hiking, and he seemed anxious & distracted. Finally, we found a private area where we could take in the beautiful view. He hugged me, told me I was his best friend & had a question for me – then got on one knee and asked me to marry him.
