How We Met
On June 23rd, 2012 Julie and Kyle both attended the same wedding in Maryland. Julie was a bridesmaid and Kyle was a groomsman and their friends, Liz and Andy, paired them up to walk down the aisle together as a set up. After realizing that they both lived in New York City they went on a few dates here and there and liked each other, but it wasn’t until 2013 that sparks really started to fly! They fell madly in love and have been inseparable ever since!
how they asked
Mine and Kyle’s families both came to New York City for a new Thanksgiving tradition! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I was excited to spend a Thanksgiving in New York City since I had not done that in 15 years! Both families attended the parade, had a lovely dinner, and ate a lot of dessert! On Friday, I went shopping with my Mom and m sister, Jen, thinking I would have a girls day on 5th Avenue for Black Friday and then we would meet up with my other sister later on. I thought Kyle was having a boys day, but turns out he was running around putting the finishing touches on the proposal plans and picking up my friends and family and getting them checked into their hotels and getting them to the restaurant. After a day of shopping, I thought I was meeting up with her other sister, Jess, at a restaurant called Blue Water Grill in downtown Manhattan. This is my favorite restaurant in the whole city and I made the suggestion, so I didn’t think anything suspicious at all. I walked in the door with my Mom and my other sister, Jen, and asked the hostess for the reservation name and the hostess read this really long description on the reservation book and then said she would be right back. This seemed a little peculiar and my first thought was that I was walking into a surprise birthday party since my birthday is the week after Thanksgiving. The hostess came back and we were escorted downstairs. When I got to the bottom of the stairs I just saw roses, candles, and champagne everywhere and Kyle holding a little black box. I immediately started crying, covered my face, and was absolutely shocked that I had not seen this coming! With Kyle’s voice shaking and standing in front of everyone, he expressed his love for me and how he wants to spend the rest of his life with me and got down on one knee.
I said yes and finally turned my head and realized that 40 family members and friends were there waiting and videotaping! Kyle had been secretly arranging for friends and family to visit from Maryland, California, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Illinois!
Kyle even set up a personalized “JK Engagement” menu (with all of their favorite dishes from the restaurant) and bought a three-course meal and bottomless drinks for everyone there! We then enjoyed the rest of the evening at my surprise engagement party at Blue Water Grill and of course eventually ended up at a karaoke bar for the after party to show off our duet skills! It was a spectacular evening (and weekend) filled with happy tears, many glasses of wine, and lots of loved ones!
