How We Met
I met the love of my life on Tinder! As a single college gal working in the big city (New York) for a radio station, I had little time for traditional dating. When I wasn’t working events for the local Top-40 station, I was organizing or attending sorority events, or doing school work. Kevin was commuting to Jersey City and we matched when we were both at work. We chatted for a bit on the app before he asked me on a date. Normally, I wouldn’t be comfortable actually meeting up with someone, but he was from a town not too far from my hometown, and we had a mutual friend. My friend from school was an old football buddy of Kevin’s.
I reached out to our friend to see if Kevin is someone I should meet up with, not knowing Kevin did the same thing about me! We both got the green light and ended up seeing each other for a couple of months until we stopped talking. Fast forward a year, and we bump into each other at a local bar. This night I did not want to go out. I hadn’t washed my hair in days but my friends dragged me out. Kevin and I both did a double take as we exchanged glances from across the bar and the rest is history!
how they asked
Kevin and I have a passion for travel, but neither of us have much experience in it. He booked our Dubai vacation as a Christmas gift, so we could come back with some amazing memories and conversation starters. For months, he had been obsessing over the miracle garden – telling me how he’s so excited to go visit. He planned for us to go Sunday morning, our second day in the Middle East, followed by a lunch at atmosphere, the elegant restaurant on top of the Burj Khalifa. So, we got up early and dressed in our Sunday best. Kevin was sure I could see the box protruding out of his jacket pocket at breakfast, but he was wrong! Shortly after we arrived at the garden, a photographer approached us.
She told us she was working on her couples portfolio and asked if she could photograph us. I didn’t think anything of it, and got excited – figuring we could get some cool photos taken of us for free! Kevin played along asking if we had to pay and if we’d be able to get the photos from her. She had us separate and walk towards each other once to get the lighting right, and then a second time. As we separated for the second photo, I (jokingly) asked Kevin if he planned this – it was too perfect! He, of course, denied. As we approached each other for the second time, he got down on one knee and said, “Or maybe I did plan this.” He got down on one knee and pulled out the most perfect ring.
He said something along the lines of, “There’s no way I was bringing you to Dubai and not bringing you back as my future wife! Will you marry me?” That was the best moment of my life. I couldn’t stop crying and shaking, I thought he was joking! I was staring a the ring asking him if he was joking! We spent the next hour taking our engagement photos around the garden. I can’t believe I get to marry my best friend! I’m the luckiest girl in the world. We are the luckiest people in the world to have found a love like ours! I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings!
