Julie and Christopher

How We Met

Chris and I are high school sweethearts and have been dating for 7 years. I was a freshman and he was a senior. We were both studying Spanish in the second period of the day, in Mrs. Mazella’s class, and I recall he was the best dressed in the class and I felt so lucky to sit right next to him. He asked me out to the movies, and I turned him down, thinking I was too young and naive to be dating a senior. He asked again and still, I said no, but a friendship began and we started dating my senior year of high school when he was a sophomore in College. The rest is history.

How They Asked

Tuesday was the most magical day of my life. Cliché I know. We were on our annual Vacation in Nantucket, a tradition he’s had for 26 years and one I’ve been lucky to be a part of for 7 years. We were heading to a fancy dinner at a French restaurant in Sconset, and I wanted to take pictures in front of the lighthouse on our way. It was misty and foggy (and very dreamy). I had been hoping it would be a special night but after weeks of Chris telling me it’s not happening, I prepared myself not to be too sad.

We had our annual tradition of hugging the lighthouse so we started to walk towards it and he smiled at me as if to say “I told you it’s not happening.” We walked around Sankaty Headlight and then he started to walk back to the car. I pulled his hand back and said let’s go around again as if maybe it would happen if we walked around just one more time. But little did I know, he had other plans.

He pulled me back towards the car and said: “dinner’s waiting”. I had come to terms with the idea that it wasn’t happening tonight as we started to walk back towards the car. His lapel on his jacket was blowing in the wind and I went to tuck it in for him (later he told me he thought I was patting him down which may or may not have been a routine of ours on every possible special occasion) but as I tucked it in the oh so smoothly pulled my grandmother’s ring box out of his pocket and got down on one knee and asked Julie Anne Nickerson, Will you marry me!? I said yes and just then @rebeccalovephotography jumped out and captured so much love and happiness in a photo; a photo that I will cherish forever.

It was a perfect surprise. Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of this moment. My mom and I would drive by a church and the minute we saw a wedding we would have to pull over so we could see the bride and groom! I watched countless wedding videos and my favorite part is always the wedding vows. To hear two people profess their love for one another is just so romantic. I’m so excited for this next adventure in our lives and to become your #wifey
