How We Met: I was walking out of church (I had just attended a very dear friend’s baptism) and I heard someone saying, “excuse me miss, excuse me miss.” I turned around and saw a very attractive man wearing a white Nike sweatshirt walking towards me. I thought to myself, “that would be so awesome if he is talking to me.” Little did I know, he was coming straight for me! I turned back around and continued to walk away, not thinking I was the person he was trying to stop. I could hear him running behind me as he continued saying “excuse me.” I turned around and we made eye contact. I was so nervous, I couldn’t believe I was the person he was talking to. I thought I had dropped something on my way out of church and he had picked it up and was going to give it to me. He said “I am sorry but know I would regret it for a long time if I didn’t ask you your name.” Once we started talking, I found out that he was a few years younger than I am. I still gave him my number but told him that I had a lovely younger sister that he may be interested in. He didn’t take no for an answer and continued to pursue me. We talked every day. My mom and sister convinced me to go out with him, just to have fun. Little did I know, he would end up being the person I would marry some day.
how they asked: Jacob is still in school at Dartmouth. He had flown in for the weekend to see me in my hometown. His parents (who live out of town) flew into Maryland that weekend as well. As far as I knew they were house hunting (I was surely mistaken). Jacob and I had arranged to go to church with them on Sunday. I noticed Jacob was being very fidgety during church, I didn’t think anything of it, but I did tell him that he was all over the place and asked if he was okay. He said that he was fine. As we were walking out of church his dad told us to stop to take a few pictures. This was the same exact spot we had met two years ago. All of a sudden I noticed that Jacob was holding my hands and looking right into my eyes. He looked at me and said “Juliann, remember at this very same spot two years ago when I first came up to you and said that I would regret it for a long time if I didn’t ask you your name? Well I now know that it would be the biggest mistake of my life if I didn’t ask you to be my wife.” He then got down on one knee and said, “Will you marry me Juliann?” From behind all the cars in the parking lot and a few bushes, all of my family and closest friends appeared. It was the greatest moment of my life.
