Juliann and Dave

How We Met

Dave and I met in 2017 on the dating app, Bumble, where the woman has to make the first move and message the guy. Typically, I never messaged a guy unless he extended his time because I thought that meant he wanted to talk to me. However, as soon as I matched with Dave I felt like I should message him. His smile made me smile, and I thought it was worth a shot!

We texted for a couple of days and on May 21, Dave asked me if I wanted to grab drinks later that night. I picked my favorite Mexican restaurant, Pancho’s Burritos in New Milford, NJ. We had a couple of margaritas, shared a ton of laughs and stories, and were actually asked to leave the restaurant because they needed to close. It was such a good night that neither of us really wanted to leave. We had our first kiss in the parking lot as we said goodbye, and I instantly had a feeling that this was going to be more than just a little crush. A couple of days later we went on our second date to a hibachi restaurant, and again we got kicked out of the restaurant because they needed to close. Every time we hung out we always felt like there wasn’t enough time in the day.

Needless to say, we spent the whole summer together, became best friends, fell in love, and the rest is history!

How They Asked

Dave and I have lived together for over a year now, but we still love to do things together on the weekends because we are both so busy during the week with work. April was going to be a month where we weren’t going to spend many weekends together because the first two weekends Dave had to travel for work and a bachelor party, and then we planned to host 24 people for Easter dinner in our apartment.

The Saturday before Easter, Dave planned for us to have a date night out at one of our favorite restaurants, Rails in Towaco, NJ, as a way to spend some time together before the craziness of hosting a holiday. We both got new outfits and got dressed up for dinner, something we have always loved doing together. Once we got to the restaurant we were seated at the same table we sat at the first time we went there for his birthday. Then, at the 6 person table next to us they sat one woman. Our entire dinner I kept thinking this poor girl’s friends are so late for dinner, I felt so bad for her!

We finished our amazing meals and we were just chatting about the decor of the restaurant and how we would love for that type of decor to be in our future home one day. Dave then turns to me and says, “Do you love me?”, I said, “Of course!”, he goes, “How much?”, I reply with, “More than all the shoes, handbags, and puppies in the world!” (Anyone that knows me, knows that is A LOT!) And then I asked him if he loved me more than all the boats and cars in the world (anyone that knows Dave, knows that is A LOT!), and his reply was, “Yes I love you more than anything and I am going to prove it to you!” At first, I was confused, how was he going to prove it to me? But all of a sudden I see him get up, come to my side of the table, and get down on one knee! He asked me to marry him, and of course, I said YES! The best part is, the girl sitting at the table alone was a photographer and she captured every moment on camera!

After the initial shock subsided, Dave surprised me again, and told me that our families were downstairs in the speakeasy bar so we could all celebrate together! We went downstairs and the first face I saw was my dad’s. I instantly broke down in tears, because it was always my dad that told me to never settle, that everything in life happens for a reason, and that one day I would find the perfect man for me. At that moment it really hit me. We were engaged and beginning our new journey in life together with those who love us the most!

Hands down, this was the perfect proposal for us!
