How We Met
On February 28, 2018, Danny, a college senior at the University of Connecticut, first matched with me, a Cleveland Institute of Music violinist, on the dating app, Coffee Meets Bagel. Although finding someone online has a bad reputation, both Danny and I knew exactly what we were looking for! Right from our first date, I kept a detailed journal of every moment we spent together, sensing from Danny’s good character and respect that he was the one. Even though the majority of our relationship was long-distance as we were both in school, we grew closer and more in love through daily video chats. Danny supported me through tough times in my recovery from my eating disorder, and he never stopped encouraging my potential. I always tried to bring out the best in Danny, as well, loving him unconditionally and supporting him in his endeavors as a data scientist.
How They Asked
I was so eager to get engaged that I booked the wedding date and venue the week before my proposal! Danny and I knew we were getting married and didn’t want a long engagement, so I wanted to get the ball rolling and had his permission to begin the wedding planning. I knew the ring would come soon. I play private event gigs almost every weekend as a violinist, and a few weeks prior, I received a request from my website from a woman who wanted to hire me on Leap Day for a romantic dinner date with her husband, in Danny’s own town, for an outrageous amount of money. Of course, I was suspicious that Danny was behind this because we joked about getting engaged on Leap Day, I was booked through my website which has never happened before, and the signature I received on the contract was just TOO OBVIOUS.
I kept checking the weather forecast, stressed because the temperature would be frigid cold that night and my wooden violin would crack in the cold, but I had a strong gut feeling to continue with the gig. It had to be him, right? On February 29, 2020, I arrived at Blue Back Square ran into the Barnes and Noble next door because it was too cold! Apparently this was not part of the plan, and a man had to chase me and try to convince me to come outside. I finally saw Danny’s face under the beautiful outdoor pillars, and we just stared at each other for a good two minutes before I finally ran out to meet him! As soon as I stood with him on the platform, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!
