How We Met

Julia and I met in Tel Aviv on a Monday morning for coffee in January 2016. She was in college and I was getting ready to join the Israeli Defense Forces. I started falling in love with her at first sight. I loved her smile, the twinkle in her eyes, her appetite for life, and the way she carried herself with confidence, but more than anything she was the sweetest person I had ever met. Very quickly, I realized that Julia was everything I wanted and much more; she cared deeply about her family, had worldly and intelligent opinions about everything from politics and religion to art, food, and fashion, and I was determined that nothing would prevent us from being together. So I convinced Julia to stay by my side throughout all of my service in the army, agreeing to move back to the US when I finished. We moved in together after only about 8 months, filling our perfect apartment in the center of Tel Aviv with a lot of laughter, backgammon, huge Shabbat dinners, and lots of love. Julia graduated college, started her first job, and began making our plans for an adventure across Japan, Bali, and Singapore after my release to civilian life. Our relationship matured, our bond grew stronger, and I knew that I wanted to marry her. Moving back to the U.S., we started a new life from her parents’ basement, which was a very fun and exciting time, albeit bittersweet to have left so many friends and the life we had built in Israel behind. Finding jobs relatively quickly, we moved out of the basement after a few months and now live in Dupont Circle in DC. Julia means more to me than words can describe, she is my soul-mate. Julia is always there for me, she makes me a better man, and I feel like the luckiest guy in the world to be able to call her mine. My hope is that Julia and I will make the world a better place by giving back to our community, leading virtuous lives, and supporting our friends and family in any way we can. I am so grateful that we found each other.

how they asked

Julia THOUGHT she was going to work in D.C., only to find out that her beau, Jackson, had called her off for the day and drove her over three hours Northwest to the mountains of Pennsylvania at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort. Little did she know.. today was going to be the best day..ever. Upon arrival, their car was valéd, and a butler directed the couple to a private lunch. After lunch Jackson had a chauffeur pick them up in a Range Rover and drive them to the highest point on the resort, overlooking snow-covered mountains. As Jackson led Julia out of the car, the couple followed a trail of rose petals which stopped right in front of a giant heart sculpture. Jackson then got on one knee and proposed to the love of his life. <3
