How We Met
7 years ago, I was blessed to have Eric as my tour guide while on a university tour. I was a young, awkward Grade 12 student and he was this older, “cool” university sophomore (who spent most of the time answering my Dad’s questions about the school). The day following the tour, I was surprised to see Eric’s name pop up on my phone – we kept in touch, and soon became best friends. Little did I realize that a few months later, Eric would tell me he loved me the day before he left on a yearlong academic exchange program in Spain.
Although we had an ocean of distance between us, we spent hours on Skype, sent numerous handwritten postcards, and celebrated every Spanish holiday. Since then, we have travelled to 26 countries and countless cities together. This summer we decided to spend 2 weeks in Spain to visit Eric’s favourite locations and to go back to where we first realized we didn’t want to live without each other.
how they asked
We are always looking for our next adventure – so when Eric suggested watching the sunrise at a surprise location on the first day of our Spain trip, I was not surprised. After all, he spent months living in Spain and was an expert on the go-to spots.
It was an absolute dream to be wandering through Parc Guell and taking in the scenery in the empty park. We were overlooking Gaudi’s incredible creations with views of Barcelona, and Eric dropped down on one knee.
My automatic reaction was to cover my eyes because I couldn’t believe it was happening! I said an overwhelming “yes” before he could finish his proposal speech. And that was only the beginning of our vacation…
