How We Met
Josh and I first met because we went to the same middle school. We actually “dated” for a little while in the 7th grade! Fast forward to our junior year of high school, Josh asked me the homecoming dance. We had some mutual friends but hadn’t talked much since middle school, so I thought this would be a good time to catch up.
We spent the night dancing and having fun, and by the time the dance was over I had a pretty big crush on him. A few months later he asked me to officially be his girlfriend, and the rest is history. We graduated high school together, both attend Texas A&M University, and have dated for over 5 years.
how they asked
Josh asked me to be his wife on December 16, 2016. He told me we were going to eat for his dad’s birthday at a nice restaurant near downtown. On the way there, he got a call from his dad asking us to go by and lock up one of the houses they had been working on earlier that day (his dad owns a custom home business and Josh helps him out on breaks when we come from school).
All I could think about was how hungry I was and just wanted to get to the restaurant, but he assured me it was on the way and wouldn’t take more than a few minutes. He said the key was inside, so we got out and walked up to the front of the house. Little did I know this moment was going to be the start of the best night ever…
As Josh opened the door, I saw the front hallway was lined with candles and rose petals.
Directly in front of me were all of my favorite pictures that Josh and I had taken throughout the years. Underneath them were notes from his parents, my parents, and a bible with my soon to be name embossed on the front.
Josh hugged me as I bawled and read sweet words from our families. While I was finishing the last note, Josh started playing and singing “Forever Like That” by Ben Rector on his guitar. I had mentioned over a year ago how adorable I thought the song was and told him he should learn to play it (turns out he was just waiting for the perfect moment to show me!)
When he finished the song he got down on one knee and spoke kind words about our relationship, our future, and the love that we share. I was so excited I don’t even remember exactly what he said, but I do remember him asking me the one thing I’ve been waiting for since I was a little girl “Megan, will you marry me?” Of course I said yes, and he slipped the beautiful ring on my finger.
I then asked if we actually were going to eat (because hey, I was still really hungry) and he said yes, that both of our parents were at his house and were meeting them there to go eat and celebrate.
Much to my surprise, he had also planned an engagement party with our family and close friends! We spent the rest of the night surrounded by love and the people that mean the most to us.
