How We Met
Josh and I met through a mutual friend. Now before I go any further, the first text message that this man sent to me said, “I do not want anything more out of this than a friendship”.. Which was a huge disappointment for me because I had the biggest crush on him already. Nevertheless, that summer he needed a tutor for a Statistics class that he was taking and I was more than happy to help. We become best friends over those few months but did not extend the relationship because he was going off to play baseball at Georgia Southern and I was going in the complete opposite direction to play tennis. Freshmen year happened and we still kept in touch here and there. Towards the end of spring semester, I decided to surprise him when they played at Clemson and I knew as soon as I saw him that I was not over that high school crush. Surprisingly enough, things started to change after that, but I was going off to Honduras on missions in two, short weeks. As I flew back into the Atlanta airport, a message came in that ultimately changed everything. Long story short, two months later I became his girlfriend and the rest.. well I think you may know what happens next :)
how they asked
I had just come home for Thanksgiving break and we are talking about plans for church on Sunday. He tells me that he finally finished my birthday present (which was 2 weeks before), and that his sister wanted to take pictures of him giving it to me because she had just gotten a new camera and wanted to practice with it. I said, “oh yay! We don’t have any good pictures of us!”, obviously not giving it a second thought. Sunday rolls around and we are leaving church and we go out to lunch with his grandparents. He tells me that we will be taking pictures at Toccoa Falls College (where he goes to school now & where I tutored him). We get there and start taking pictures immediately. As we get closer to the falls I see a bunch of daisies and an easel with a blanket that’s covering something. He takes the blanket off and there is a wooden sign with an outline of the world on it, our names, and the date. I absolutely loved it and we hugged and continued taking pictures.. when all of a sudden Josh says, “there is a letter I wrote you on the back that I meant to give you for your birthday..” and then as he turns around I see “Macy, will you marry me burned onto the back of the sign?”.
I then look up and see him reaching into his pocket and I immediately bursted into tears. He said, “Macy Milford, I love you so much. Will you marry me?” I don’t know how I did it, but I managed to get the phrase,”Yes!! Of course I will!!” out. This day was by far the purest, most joyous moment of my life and I can’t wait to be Mrs. Joshua Slate! The Lord is so so faithful!
