how we met
Josh and I were a “Match” on Match.com. Josh “liked” “Favorited” and “winked” at me, however, he didn’t actually send me a message. I thought he was super cute and decided to take a chance by messaging him. He later told me he thought I was out of his league, which I though was really sweet. He asked me out on first date at Bad Daddy’s. I could tell he was really, really nervous, but I just played it cool. When we sat down, he proceeded to tell me that he walked up to the wrong girl thinking it was me! Luckily, the date got much better from there. I had a horse show that weekend and didn’t hear from him at all, but come Monday I got another text from him. I was surprised to see hear from him again, but definitely not disappointed. Over the next couple of weeks I brought him to the barn and he brought me fishing. I had never felt so comfortable around someone before. We just clicked!
Over the next couple of weeks, we would take the time to seek out one another. After only a couple of weeks of dating he took me to his favorite restaurant and told me he had a surprise for me when we got back to his house. I was such a nervous ball of excitement. He tried to down play the surprise, but I knew he was up to something. I was hoping he would ask me to be his girlfriend, but I didn’t want to set myself up for disappointment. As soon as I walked in I saw a huge bouquet of very fragrant flowers and then he brought me a box. When I opened the box, it was four (Gluten free!) cupcakes, which read: Be My GF?
how they asked – her side
We planned a beach trip with Josh’s brother and his fiancé in early May. We had been planning the trip for what seemed like FOREVER On the first night we got there, I thought we were just grabbing dinner with them, but it turned into the best night of my life.
Before dinner, we went to my favorite place in Charleston- The Battery. When we finally got there after a delayed check-in at our resort and 2 hours of dead-stop traffic we started to walk toward White Point Garden. Josh’s hands were in a cold sweat and I could tell something was up. He was being very quiet and made very small talk. I started to get suspicious of what he was up to so I just let him lead me to wherever he wanted to go. As soon as I saw the gazebo decked out in lanterns, flowers, candles, and photos of us I immediately knew what was about to happen and started crying (the good kind of tears)!
I had frozen up and all I kept thinking was “Pull it together, you will want to remember this!!” He pulled out a Bible, (which he already had inscribed with “Mr. & Mrs. Metz!”) and read me John 15:5. I couldn’t stop crying!
Just as soon as he was done he got down on one knee and said the sweetest, most heartfelt things and then asked me to spend forever with him. My world was spinning with excitement! He hand-picked the most gorgeous ring I’ve ever seen! I – obviously – said YES!
After so much laughter, crying and jumping up and down, we took our engagement pictures then headed to my favorite restaurant in Charleston, Rue De Jean, to celebrate with my soon to be brother and sister-in-law! On our way home from the beach, I called the venue we were eyeing and requested a date in October. The woman proceeded to tell us she had a cancellation just two weeks before we called! I wanted our wedding to be a representation of who we are together and how to Lord has worked in us. I am so thankful to spend the rest of my life with this man and am so excited for our future together!
how they asked – his side
On April 12th, I “designed” (told the guys big picture stuff of how I wanted to ring to look) and bought her ring. In the proposal plans, two things were at the top of the list: make it a surprise and have it be only family (plus photographer). The place was going to be The Battery, my brother and his fiancé drove 7 hours that morning to get everything set up, and I finally secured a photographer (being that it was Mother’s Day that was no easy task). Now trying to surprise her was not going to be easy, but I figured if I could have “plans” that involved other people, she would suspect that given day as the day it would happen.
My brother and fiancé patiently waiting on us to arrive.
When my original day fell through, I decided to make May 8th the new date. Jenna actually told me months ago she had a dream I would propose that day, so I wanted to make her dream come true!
I picked a niceish restaurant and bought her a dress to wear so that she would not change into yoga pants before the proposal. Well, everything worked out perfectly! (Well, besides the late check-in, and the photographer threatening to leave because we were two hours late)
She was stunned when she realized what was happening. It was as beautiful a moment as I could have hoped for. My brother and his fiancé had everything set up perfectly and when it finally got there everything went off without a hitch. It was awesome!! Now I am set to marry the love of my life and the person I know God has been preparing me for!
