How We Met
Joseph and I have been dating for 7 years, yes 7 years! Honestly, it does not feel like it’s been 7 years. We met right after I graduated high school. I was 17 and he was 18, and during that time, I was not seeking a relationship but God’s plans were different. We started talking and getting to know each other and with time, he conquered my heart.
How They Asked
I visited Carmel at the beginning of the year and I fell in love with it. My family and I were planning a family trip to Carmel and we booked our rooms and then I find out our friends were coming along plus now my fiancé. I was so excited to go on a family trip with my boyfriend and especially to Carmel because he has never been there before. On Friday, December 13, 2019, it was our first day at Carmel which consisted more of resting and eating rather than exploring. On Saturday, December 14, 2019, Joseph tells me he wants us to dress up nicely and go out for dinner so I agreed; however we were not hungry when the time came due to having a good meal at lunchtime.
Not being hungry, we decided to go to a candy cane lane and walk around and while doing so, he kept checking his phone and texting someone but I did not question it because I was thinking of how tired I was walking around with heels. Then he looks at me and asks if I want to go get dessert despite the fact I wasn’t hungry but I agreed just to spend more time with him. When it was 7:00 p.m. he stated that we should go meet with my family in case they wanted to go have dinner. We drove back to La Playa Carmel and when I get out of the car, my sister, Raisa, and our other friend, Gerson, were there waiting for us. Raisa blind folds me and states that they have a surprise for me. I was nervous and did not know what to expect. I kept saying “Joseph, walk with me I do not want to fall,” and we went up to the garden area and when they take off the scarf from my eyes, I see pictures and a marry me sign.
Joseph starts talking and saying how much I mean to him. He starts to cry and asks “do you want to marry me” I start crying and shaking my head yes! I hugged him and we kissed and of course, I said “YES!” While he proposed it started to sprinkle which made it even more special. My family and friends started to cheer and I noticed my mom was video chatting with my family in Guatemala, I started to cry more because they were able to be part of it even if it was through a video call. All I can say is how happy I am of how he proposed especially having my loved ones witness this special moment.
