Jordan and Sean
How We Met
Sean and I met in college. We had known about each other for a while but hadn’t had the chance to meet until one night when I picked him out of a crowd and asked (or forced) his best friend to introduce us. I would like to say it was love at first sight, but it took us about 9 months to really fall in love. We had both been accepted into a study abroad program, he would be in Madrid and I would be in Florence. We agreed to go our separate ways and enjoy our time abroad, without having to endure the struggles of a long distance relationship. However, that didn’t last long because our first weekend in Europe, he sent me a text that simply read, “Come visit Madrid next weekend”. At the time I was in Capri with my best friends, I looked over at them and said, “I have to go”. That next weekend, we flew to Madrid and from the moment we saw each other, something had changed. We had this energy between us that felt so right. We still talk about how we knew from that moment on, this was it. That was 5 years ago, and we haven’t spent a day apart since.
how they asked
Our proposal story truly started 6 months ago, April 2018. Sean took my dad, mom, and sister out to lunch for what they thought was any other day because I was out of town for the weekend. However, that was the day he asked my family for my hand in marriage. He made it a point to include everyone in this moment, which means the world to me. Since then, he has been planning a proposal to take place on our 5 year anniversary, 10/10/2018. When it was getting closer to the date, Sean told me he wants to surprise me for our anniversary, since 5 years is a big milestone. What girl is going to say no to that?!
After about a month of asking a million questions a day, the plan started to take motion. The night of the 8th, Sean told me we had to be at the airport at 2pm the next day. So we get to LAX, butterflies in my stomach, Sean walks me up to the gate that says San Francisco. I was slightly in disbelief since that is where his family is from and we go there all the time, yet was still excited to spend time with him. We get to Marin County, where his mom lives, and he says I have to be ready by 8am the next day (our actual anniversary) for our adventure to begin!
I get dressed the next morning and get in the car where Sean FINALLY tells me we are going to Napa for the week. I don’t think I have ever been so excited because 1. I love wine tasting and 2. we both have a special love and connection to Napa. About an hour later, we pull up to Quintessa Winery, one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We check in and begin our tour that ends up in a private pavilion that overlooks the rolling green vine-filled hills and sparkling lake below. Truly one of the most breathtaking views. We continue with our tasting, where the host was pouring pretty full glasses because she knew what was about to happen. Towards the end, I request that our host take some pictures of us. We move out onto the patio and she snaps a few pics before Sean turns towards me and takes my hands in his. He begins to tell me what the past 5 years have meant to him and I immediately know what’s about to happen. I think I was in such shock at one point that I even told him to shut up! He gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. Truly the happiest moment of my life.
After a moment to ourselves, basically just crying in each others arms for 15 minutes, he says that the day isn’t over! We head to the winery next door for some lunch at their outdoor picnic tables. As we are turning the corner, I see both of our families all huddled together waving at us. I drop to the floor in pure shock and happiness as they all rush towards us. It is moments like these in my life that make me so grateful for the people we are surrounded by. Both of our families put so much time and energy into making the proposal special and planning the rest of the week together filled with wine, friends, laughs, and our new family. It was truly the most magical day of my life and I cant wait to marry the greatest love I have ever known.
