How We Met
Joe and I could have crossed paths for years, but it wasn’t until 2014 that we met. We both grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio (our parents live 10 minutes from each other!) We both attended The Ohio State University, joined fraternities/sororities, and then moved to Colorado.
We met through a mutual friend on a hike to Devil’s Head Lookout. We hung out in similar social circles, with friends that were Buckeyes, for years. Joe finally worked up the courage to ask me out on our first date in the spring of 2015, after I returned from working abroad in Beijing, China. We enjoyed rooftop cocktails at happy hour. However, the timing wasn’t right, so we continued to hang out as friends. I tease Joe that he had been missing signals that I was interested for years.
Finally, during the summer of 2017, after listening to bluegrass music at a summer concert, Joe and I shared our first kiss. The following week we went on our second first date, and fell into love hard and fast.
how they asked
Back in September, we had stayed in Vail for our friends’ wedding. We ordered room service and indulged in the amazing Crunchy French Toast at the Vail Marriott. When Joe emailed me that he had Marriott points that were expiring and asked if I would want to go back for the french toast, I was immediately on board. He emailed me possible weekends, and I picked the first weekend in March.
We traveled up to Vail on a warm and sunny day in March. We arrived at the Marriott, however weren’t able to check in early. We dropped off our bags and headed to find a patio for some cocktails. Joe had told me that we had an early dinner reservation, so we made our way to the other end of Vail to check in for dinner. As we were walking, we reached a bridge. Joe asked to take a picture of me. Before I knew it, he was on his knee and I was saying “yes, yes, yes!” Joe had arranged to have a photographer capture our precious moments. We took beautiful pictures in the snow, surrounded by mountains and then headed back to the hotel to call our families. We wrapped up the night by taking the Gondola and a snowcat to enjoy our actual dinner reservation and a delicious dinner at Game Creek Restaurant.
And in the morning, we ordered the Crunchy French Toast ;-)
