How We Met
We met on Bumble. Both of us had bad luck dating online in the past but decided to give it one more shot. We matched and after a one time renew, Erin messaged me and we went out to a movie and then drinks afterward.
Erin must’ve really liked me because she’s not a big movie person and I later found out she thought going to a movie for a first date was dumb. But from there we hung out two days later, again watching movies. And even after I moved from Des Moines to Sioux City, we stayed together because I know I couldn’t let this one go.
How They Asked
Erin won The Master’s lottery about 6 months into us dating in 2017 so we knew we were going for a while as the tournament wasn’t until April of 2018. I had originally planned on proposing in the summer of 2018, but since we’re both BIG golfers, I knew this would be a once in a lifetime question to ask at a once in a lifetime place.
We flew down to Augusta and went to the Wednesday practice round and Par 3 contest. We got there around 630AM to walk the course and get spots for the Par 3 contest. Needless to say, the ring was burning a hole in my pocket all day long.
At the end of the day, I suggested we head over to Magnolia Lane so we could get a picture in front of the iconic clubhouse. Our friends Travis and Sarah were with us and I had already filled them in on my plan. As we got to the front of the line, I passed off my camera to Travis and had him tell The Masters photographer what was about to happen unbeknownst to Erin.
The photographer took a few pictures and then when we were done, Erin wanted a group picture. But before that could happen, I took her hands and told her how much I loved her and how I couldn’t have picked a better place to ask my forever best ball partner to marry me.
It couldn’t have been more perfect. She said yes and was overcome with emotion as we received a nice golf clap from the many onlookers. Any trip to The Masters is special, but this trip was unforgettable thanks to a proposal “unlike any other”. We had local news coverage too. Watch it here.
We were married in May of 2019 and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
