Jonna and Tyler

How We Met

Some people don’t believe in love at first sight, but I sure do. Back in May of 2012, when I was 19 and Tyler was 21, I got a message on Facebook from a cute guy that I never had even heard of before, but we had a significant amount of mutual friends so I thought he couldn’t be that bad ;). After a friendly conversation, I came to find out that he worked at a Best Buy nearby and he was dreading going into work that night. As nervous as I was, I really wanted to see him and meet him, but wanted to do it discretely without him knowing I was there (you know, just in case he wasn’t who he said he was). That same night I decided to just do it. I went to Best Buy, and headed to towards the gaming/movie department where he worked. As I was “looking at movies to buy” (aka stalking this guy I didn’t know) I noticed a handsome man with dark brown hair helping out a girl. Naturally, I freaked out and stopped looking at him and decided to find myself a good rom-com to buy. As I was looking at movies (no really, I was looking this time) out of the corner of my eye, I saw Tyler walk by the aisle I was in; but then he back tracked, stopped and looked at me, and said “Jonna?”, as I had a HUGE grin on my face. As soon as we spoke in person for the very first time, I KNEW Tyler was the one and the rest is history.

how they asked

We had talked about marriage probably around year 1 of dating, and by 3 1/2 years, I was more than ready for him to ask but it hadn’t happened yet! I was extremely ancy to say the least. All he ever told me was to be patient, and our time would come soon. Tyler is an extremely thoughtful person, so I knew however he decided to propose would be a dream come true that I would remember forever. I am extremely gullible, to say the least, and Tyler used that to his advantage: I basically planned my own proposal!

Tyler was turning 25 on December 18, 2015 and the two of us decided to plan a trip to San Francisco to celebrate him the whole weekend! We booked a room for two nights over-looking the city with three ginormous windows that show cased all of San Francisco’s beauty. Two weeks before we went, Tyler’s mom text me saying that it would be so fun if my family and his family did a surprise party for him while we were there, and I was ALL IN because I am constantly telling Tyler how good at surprises I am, so this was my time to shine! They were going to decorate our room while we were out shopping (they were able to get another key at the front desk while we were out) and when we came back to the hotel to change for dinner, we would open the door and surprise him!

I got the text at 5:30pm from Tyler’s mom to “Come on up”, meaning they were ready to surprise Tyler! Once we got to our room, our keys wouldn’t work! I was so frustrated because I knew that it was because our family had gotten another key. I kept wondering to myself WHY they just wouldn’t open the door! We finally confirmed our names/room number with security and they opened our door for us. When I walked in, the room was dark and I was wondering why our families hadn’t jumped out yet to surprise him. I walked in further and to my surprise…. I saw a beautiful room lit with tons of candles and rose pedals everywhere, champagne in a bucket with two glasses, long stem roses, and a box on the bed.

I just about lost it when I saw everything and started putting two and two together. He poured his heart out to me, telling me he wanted me to be the one to spend the rest of his birthdays with him as he pulled out the MOST AMAZING ring that he had custom made just for me. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night. He even had my GoPro rolling the whole time, so it was all caught on camera! Our families came up to our room and we celebrated with champagne! A big thanks to both of our families who helped with the proposal, it was such a special night!
