How We Met
Justin and I have had mutual friends since high school and we knew of each other but had never connected in person. When I was a junior in college I attended the local jazz festival that happens every September, I saw a friend of mine and when I went to talk to him Justin happened to be with. While at the jazz festival Justin and I never spoke to each other, but when I got home that evening a mutual friend of ours called me to let me know that Justin thought I was cute and wanted my number. Initially I turned the offer down because I was focused on school and other goals – fast forward to December of that year and I finally let Justin get my number. We went on our first date in January of 2013 and the rest is history!
how they asked
Justin and I have been together almost 5 years and this past summer I decided I wanted to celebrate my birthday by going to Chicago for a weekend to see Hamilton. Our hotel was right downtown in the area known as The Loop – it was a great spot and was close to everything. The day we arrived we dropped off our bags and hit the streets to explore. I was so exhausted that when we got back, all I wanted to do was sleep. Justin ended up going for a walk and when he came back he insisted that we had to go to the hotel’s rooftop bar to have a drink to bring in my birthday. The bar closed at midnight so we headed up there at about 11. When we got there we ordered drinks and Justin led me to a quiet area of the roof and asked if I was ready for my present. Not knowing what to expect I said yes and he had me close my eyes. When he said open he was down on one knee with the ring in his hand. I immediately began crying as I was so happy. Other bar patrons cheered for us and the hotel staff brought us cake and champagne to celebrate. I found out that when Justin went on his walk, he was looking for the perfect place to propose. He decided that doing it on a starry night overlooking downtown Chicago would be perfect for me, and that’s exactly what it was!!!
