How We Met

A little bit about me and James. I live in England and he live in the US. I love to travel and have a lot of friends in the West coast whom I met whilst in University. We got introduced last summer around June whilst I was travelling with some of them in Budapest. We met when I went over to OC for a friend’s 30th birthday. I remember the first time we went out together, I thought he was just showing me around as my friends in OC were at work but he told me later that he was so nervous as he thought it was a date!

I guess after a short 1 week of spending time together – we felt a really deep connection with one another and decided to have a go at this! He has pretty much grown up in OC near Huntington Beach but has sacrificed the sunny weather to come to UK to spend a lot of time with me. He came back in September and we spent a lovely 2-week exploring London and the Lake district. Also we attended our first wedding together!

We found out that we had so much in common, both love nature and hiking and he also shares my love for food and travelling. This has certainly come handy during our long distance relationship of flying half way across the world for each other every few weeks! When I was back in OC again last November, we took the opportunity to travel to Joshua Tree which we both enjoyed a lot! At Christmas, we spend a lovely week in Scotland exploring the Highlands and Isle of Skye. We managed to get on to the top of Old Man of Storr despite of gale force winds!

I think what surprised us both was how compatible we are together and how comfortable we feel with each other, we had became best friends so fast which we both feel is such an important basis of any relationship. I guess you could say it’s been a bit of a whirlwind romance because we are engaged already and planning for a wedding now!

how they asked

We had planned a trip to the big sur for around February time as part of Valentine’s Day celebration! We have already booked everything months before. On the day of heading out, we had to wake up super early as it was around 5-6 hours away and James had really wanted to check out the Keyhole arch on Pfeiffer beach. Now looking back – he was quite strange all day, refusing Mexican food for lunch (his favourite!!) and rushing me everywhere! I got so mad at one point because he wouldn’t stop at any of the beatific “vista” points along the drive to the Big sur! His excuse was that he wanted to make sure he gets a parking space at the park in time for sunset! We got to the beach at 4pm, I was even more annoyed at that point because a) sunset wasn’t until 5.56pm and b) there were so many car park spaces!!! The beach was cold and he didn’t even offer his jacket…little did I know it was because he had ring in his pocket! We were sitting around and at one point he said “oh there is no one in front of the rock-let’s ask someone to take a picture for us!” I thought it was weird because he never asks to that-always me but just figured he might be trying to keep me from complaining about the cold! So he asked this guy to take a picture, when I thought we finished, I turned around to admire the view-when I turn back around he was on his knees! I remember I kept saying “omg what are you doing”…and of course I said yes! He had a couple of his friends camped out since 3pm waiting for us to take these amazing photos!:)
