How We Met
Jimmy & I “officially met” each other in our junior year of high school. Funny back story: I (Michelle) transferred high schools after freshman year, and on the very first day I stepped foot onto the new school, at Sophmore year registration, I pointed Jimmy out to my mom! We didn’t have any classes together and were never formally introduced throughout Sophmore year. Fast forward to 11th grade, Jimmy and I had two classes together English & History, we always thank our high school history teacher for being part of our love story (shoutout to Mr. Jenkins!).
Another funny back story: Jimmy’s way of beginning to talk to me was attempting to set me up with one of his friends haha! He goes on to say now that he never thought he had a chance so he was helping his friend out instead :)
Well, I never went out with said friend, but on March 30th, 2011, Jimmy stood in front of my locker and asked me if I would be his girlfriend, I couldn’t resist…
Jimmy & I have grown up together, from getting our drivers licenses’, first jobs, first cars, and so much more. We moved to Santa Barbara together for college and eventually graduated with our bachelors degrees on the same day from the same school, such an awesome memory.
I recently finished a masters degree, and Jimmy was my backbone throughout the most challenging, but also rewarding, two years of my life. As I was commuting 45 minutes each way to the school I chose, Jimmy sat on the phone with me every night as I drove home and listened to me discuss what I learned in class, talk about people he didn’t know, and sometimes just the most random thoughts in my mind…
Jimmy is my best friend in the entire world, I admire him in so many ways and for so many things. He has taught me so much about myself, and everything else. I love you, babe, you are truly my favorite person ever!!!
How They Asked
Jimmy told me that we were going to spend the day in Santa Barbara, one of our favorite places, he said that he would plan the day for us. Jimmy doesn’t usually take over the planning aspects in our relationship, not because he isn’t good at it or doesn’t like to, but rather because I love to plan, and I’m a bit of a control freak that way! So when Jimmy told me he would be in charge of our day, I began to suspect whether maybe he’d propose ;). After spending the day in Santa Barbara Jimmy took me to watch the sunset in Malibu at El Matador Beach. We had been talking about going to this beach so this was not TOO far out of the norm. Next thing I know, Jimmy asks me to go take a walk on the beach with him. We walk over to one of the large rocks, and he pointed out a message in a bottle. I picked up the bottle and read the note when I looked up Jimmy was down on one knee and asked me to marry him! It all happened in the blink of an eye and was over so fast! Jimmy had hired a photographer, and he was hiding under one of the arches snapping away some of my all-time favorite photos now.
Jimmy’s proposal to me was so thoughtful. As I am a somewhat simplistic, introverted woman, he took note of these things. As a lover of the ocean and the beach, he knew that would be the right place to do it. Everything from what he wrote in the note, the hidden photographer, to the light pink ring box that he bought was so well thought out and made it all so special for me.
I am so excited to spend the rest of my life growing up and eventually old together! It was a yes in front of my high school locker in 2011, it was a YES on the beach that night, and it will be a yes for the rest of my life!
