Jessica and Delaney

How we met: Delaney and I met in the fall of 2011 at our church. I had been serving at our churches college ministry, SHIFT, for a few years before that, and Delaney was the “new addition” to our team. He instantly caught my eye, and knew that he was someone that I wanted to get to know better. After hanging around each other for a few months through SHIFT, I received a Facebook message from him. That next weekend, a group of friends and I were going to Big Bear for the weekend, and I found out that Delaney had been invited to join. My heart skipped a beat! A few weeks after that weekend, Delaney tricked me into what he would consider our first date, and we’ve been pretty inseparable ever since.

how they asked: It was our second year anniversary and Delaney had a whole day of surprises planned out for us. Our first stop was to the Balboa Pier where we had our “first date”, and then we made our way down PCH to Malibu where we had lunch at Dukes. After lunch we hung out on the beach for a little while until it was time to make our way to “our next stop.” While we were on our way home, we stopped at a restaurant to use the restroom and also where delaney insisted that I needed to wear a blindfold until we arrived at our next stop.

45 minutes later, we arrived. Delaney walked me to a secret location, gave a beautiful speech about the past two years of our relationship, and then asked me if I would be his wife, and I said “YES!”, all while I still had the blindfold on! After removing the blindfold I was able to see Delaney down on one knee in the same spot that he asked me to be his girlfriend two years prior!

In the same spot, there was an adorable picnic set up for us that had been set up by my best friend and future sister-in-law that included our favorite drinks and my favorite meal: Bundaberg Ginger-beer and pasta. He knows me so well! Image 4 of Jessica and Delaney
