Steve had a work trip scheduled in New Orleans so we decided I would fly down to meet him for a long weekend as a belated anniversary/birthday celebration. We had a romantic steak dinner on Friday night and woke up early Saturday to visit the Oak Alley Plantation, about an hour out of the city. Steve surprised me with a new dress as a “birthday gift” and we hit the road. As we wandered the plantation grounds we decided to walk down a the tree lined driveway to get a picture of us in front of the plantation house. We saw a man at the end of the drive and decided we would ask him to take our picture, but as we got closer I realized he was a professional photographer and he looked busy so I didn’t think we should bother him. We we got a little closer Steve took my hand and said it was time to tell me that the photographer was there for us, as he turned and dropped down on one knee. He got the ring box out of his cowboy boot (a true Texan) and asked me to marry him!
The rest of the morning was a whirlwind of excitement as we celebrated with mint juleps and lots of jumping up and down :) After some excited phone calls Steve whisked me away to a private brunch with a live Dixieland jazz trio in a beautiful courtyard in the French Quarter. As if my day wasn’t already perfect, we entered the courtyard and were greeted by the cheers of over 15 of our closest family and friends. Steve had secretly arranged for our parents and friends to fly in from all over the country to celebrate with us!
