How We Met

We met on a double date, only, we weren’t each other’s dates. I soon realized I wanted to be with him, and even told my sister about it after the date. We would see each other around school, and I would give him advice on the girl he had taken on the date (while I secretly died inside). I heard through the grape vine that he had a crush on me, but one of his friends wanted to ask me out so, being the gentleman that he is, he didn’t make any moves. But don’t you worry, about a month later we went on a hike with my sister and roommate, which ended up with him bringing cookies that night and then jumping into a freezing lake in October! and NO KISS! The next night, we sealed the deal with my terrible attempt at a first kiss–but it left a good enough impression for us to continue dating!

how they asked

We had been dating for almost 18 months at this point, and marriage had come up many times. I was so neurotic I probably cried twice a week to him about why we weren’t engaged yet. We had spent an amazing week in New York, and in Jackson Hole, and all these other amazing adventures. BUT NO RING. On my dad’s birthday, we decided to drive up the mountains in his jeep (a favorite of ours). I made him venture onto this dirt road that took us high on he mountain side. It ended up being a TERRIBLE road, and I knew he was getting annoyed. Finally, we pulled over and walked around.

It was just the two of us on top of the world. We both love photos and film, and we had brought his camera to take pictures. Right before we were about to leave to meet the rest of my family, we decided to do a photo with a timer. Little did I know, he had set it to record. After a few awkward poses, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

My mind exploded! I was so giddy, and all of the memories of the life we had started together filled my mind and all I could do was scream the ugliest “what?!” I was so shaky and excited I don’t think I said yes until two or three minutes later. Merik is truly the best thing that could have ever happened to me, and I’m the luckiest girl to be loved by him.
