How We Met
Garrett and I are both students at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio. He transferred in for our Sophomore year on campus. I had attended as a Freshman and thought I knew everyone on our tiny campus; however, during the first week of classes I saw a handsome young man walk into my classroom and I wanted to know who he was. I quickly found out he, like me, was studying nursing at MVNU. He was in all of my classes and we ended up with mutual friends. We found we had a lot in common and started hanging out. We started dating on November 22, 2013 and it did not take long for us to develop a deep connection and fall in love.
how they asked
My mom has talked about wanting professional family pictures for a while, so when we decided to take some on our family vacation to Maine, it did not come as a surprise to me. For the second year in a row, Garrett had joined us for vacation to our lake-house. He was also coming with us for family photos. Earlier in the week we had decided to take them on Thursday, August 13th at the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. As we started taking family pictures, Garrett was in every one. I figured it was because my family knew we were serious but did not question it much further. The photographer asked Garrett and me if we wanted to take couple photos. I of course jumped on the opportunity. She positioned us in front of a pool of water where our reflections could be seen, with the ocean behind us. She started taking a few shots then asked Garrett to tilt his head in a bit. At that time, Garrett leaned over and whispered “do you love me?”. I laughed because I was still trying to smile for photos and said “of course!”. Then as he got down on one knee is said “well, will you marry me?” I was in shock and bursted into tears of joy. All I could do was nod and say “yes!” as he stood up and put the ring on my finger. This photo captures my shock!
