How We Met
Chris and I met 5 years ago through my sister, who had been friends with Chris for about a year prior to her introducing us. I was having a hard time in my personal life and was looking for a weekend getaway with my family. My dad had passed and it just felt my life was turning for the worse. To top it, my current relationship was a mess. I really needed guidance and prayed my dad would help me find a way to be happy again. I originally told Trista I wanted it to be a girls trip, but she invited 3 of her close guy friends, one of which happened to be Chris. On our trip to Florida, we met and clicked instantly. We were friends who laughed about just anything and no matter what conversation we were having, it was natural and easy. One day, toward the end of the trip, we had dinner cooked by my Grandma. She made us the best home cooked meal and it was a great way to end the trip. She had gotten up to collect plates, silverware, etc. and started washing the dishes. Chris got up and washed every single dish with her and it is something I will never forget. To others it may sound like nothing, but to me it was the sweetest thing I think I have ever witnessed. We never stopped talking after that trip and I still truly believe that this entire trip happened for a reason – a way for my dad to make sure I met someone he knew I can spend the rest of my life with.
how they asked
Chris and I had a trip planned to Thailand in March. We LOVE to travel and I am so grateful that he pushes me out of my comfort zone to truly experience all life has to offer. In Thailand, we wanted to visit an Elephant farm – we were particular on which one, as we wanted to ensure they took great care of them and did not abuse them in anyway. With that said, we came across Elephant Carer Home. They had provided a full shuttle service to pick us up, provide lunch, training, and a photographer. We had a full day of activities. We visited the elephants, ate a wonderful home cooked lunch, learned how to ride, feed, and bathe them, as well as the language used to speak to the Elephants. We also were lucky enough to meet a baby elephant who was just 18 days old! Chris has already spoke to the entire team there about wanting to propose.
I had NO IDEA he kept the ring with him all day, but also needed help from the team members since there was times we were swimming in the river. We each had our own elephant for the entire day, but when Chris knew he wanted to propose, he asked that we do “couple” elephants on the way back to camp. Chris sat behind me on our elephant (her name was Ring-On!) and as we were riding back he asked me! The entire video and photos are priceless. I still get chills thinking about the day that I not only got engaged, but got engaged on an elephant in Thailand!
