How We Met: Anthony and I met when I was 14 years old, and he was 15 years old; I was a freshman in high school, and he was a sophomore. We quickly became the best of friends, and even though I had the biggest crush on him, it wasn’t until my junior year and his senior year that we began dating: April 15, 2008. Ant and I were inseparable, and for our six month anniversary he took me to the Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Studios for dinner at Bice. This is the night that he gave me my promise ring. Six years later, he proposed at the same place.
how they asked: Anthony planned out the most incredible night. It was a Sunday; I had thought that we were going out for a surprise date night, which was not unusual at all. He made me close my eyes for the last 10 minutes of the drive, and finally let me open them as we were pulling into the hotel; still I had no idea. I was just excited for a great date night at one of our favorite restaurants! As we valet parked the car, we decided to walk the hotel grounds.
Finally, we came to the hotel courtyard, set with a perfect gazebo in a beautiful lawn. When we got to the gazebo, we took a picture together, per his request. The next thing I know, Anthony turns to me and takes my hands. He asked if I remembered the first time he told me he loved me and told me that he knew back then that I was who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. I know in that moment he said some really beautiful things, but I swear I blacked out from excitement and shock as soon as I realized what was happening.
He was down on one knee before I knew it, asking me to marry him in the same place where he gave me my promise ring when we were just 16 years old. I, of course, said yes! The rest of night can only be described as absolute bliss. We headed to dinner where we were sat at a table that Anthony had arranged to have flowers in my two favorite colors waiting: Purple & Yellow. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner, but the surprises weren’t over just yet.
Anthony walked me outside, and told me he had one last surprise for me and showed me a hotel key. He had gotten in touch with my work to arrange for me to have off the next day, which was a Monday. We got to celebrate the rest of the night together! We headed to our room where purple and yellow rose petals littered the floor; candles were lit all over the room, and a bottle of champagne waited to be popped.
I cried the happiest of tears for about the tenth time that night. I truly couldn’t have planned it better myself. It was a special night, only between the two of us, that I will never, ever forget, as long as I live.
