How We Met
We met sometime in the beginning of 2008. My younger brother and his cousin were in the same class in first grade. My family would hang out with his uncles family and my now fiance, Patrick, would come to hang out too and that was how we met. We were so shy with each other though. On June 16, 2008, over Myspace he asked for my cell phone number. He had just turned 15 and I was 13. I gave it to him and we started texting immediately. I was so excited a guy wanted to talk to me I was a little crazy and obsessive if he didn’t text back within ten minutes I would text him again. We talked for years and got to know each other very well.
While we talked, we did talk to other people because things just wouldn’t work out but after I had broken up with someone in September of 2011 I knew I needed to be with Patrick. He was now a freshman in college and I was a Junior in High school in two different towns. He worked for the football team at the University in his town and a couple weeks after my break up I went to a game to see him. I couldn’t drive that late in the game so he had to bring me home and we shared our first kiss which was magical and finally happened. October 15, 2011, at my second game he asked me to be his girlfriend and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

I always told him I had to be out of college before we could get engaged. I graduated May 12, 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood Education. After graduation, we were having a party with his family and mine and going to boil crawfish. We knew the town was going to be packed after the party so we decided to do something at home instead of going out to eat. After graduation, he and I left to go pick up the live crawfish from a friend and then headed down to his grandparents’ house. His mom, sister, and grandparents were already there decorating the back patio. We arrived and went out to look at the decorations. He wanted to go ahead and give me my graduation present because he knows I don’t like opening presents and being the center of attention. I waited on the couch in the living room alone while he went to get it. He got me a big canvas that was full of pictures of us.
He told me “It’s pictures of all the journeys we have been on.” Then asked me to start a new journey with me and asked me to marry him! I had a promise ring and I ripped it off so fast and was trying to get the engagement ring to put on. We still aren’t sure if I actually said yes that day, but I keep telling him me putting on the ring was me saying yes!
Before we got engaged I already knew what day I wanted to get married. We are getting married June 16th, 2018. Ten years after him asking for my number and us actually talking to one another. It’s always been a special day in our books, so we wanted to make it even more special by getting married on that day! His sister was hiding at the front door trying to get pictures but also to make sure no one arriving at the party walked in.
