How We Met

We met in high school through mutual friends and over time got to know each other better. On Valentine’s day of junior year, we made fun of each other for having no one to share it with, but eventually agreed to be each other’s Valentine’s Day “sidekick” (since being an actual Valentine was way too boring). We lost touch and went on with our lives, but stayed in our hometown for college. A few years later, he gathered our friends to celebrate my birthday in San Francisco and on that night, I realized he had some serious dance moves. We casually carried on being friends even though we both knew something was there. We were both too shy or too scared to be the first to make a move, but about a month later with the help of some (a lot of) liquid courage, we finally got around to telling each other how we felt.

how they asked

Fast forward 10 years later! For our 10 year anniversary, I planned a glamping trip for us. We wanted to stay low-key, but also celebrate in style. I found an available campsite for Memorial Day weekend and hopped on it right away. Since I did all the planning, I had no idea anything was going to happen. It was such a cute place and we had a great time. On Saturday after our hike, we relaxed on our patio, read our books and sipped on some wine until I remembered I pinned an article titled, “25 Questions to ask your partner when you think you know everything there is to them.” I suggested we go through the article for fun. We went through the evening, took turns asking each other the questions and learned new things about each other even though we were celebrating our 10th year together. One of the last questions from that article was, “What’s something you want to know about me, but have been too scared to ask?” I didn’t realize it until after that he avoided that question all together. Before the trip, we promised not to get each other any gifts because the trip in itself was enough. I couldn’t resist so I got him something small anyway. I ordered a custom “Reasons Why I Love You” book and decided to give it to him then. He pretended to be upset and kept saying, “You promised, NO GIFTS.” We ended up reading the book together and he loved it. I, naturally, teared up even though I made the book myself. As I looked up, he reached into his backpack and said, “Well, I have a gift for you too…” and he got down on one knee and said, “We’ve been together for ten years and I can’t imagine my life without you. Will you do me the honor and spend the rest of your life with me?” After all the tears, I said yes!!!
