Jennifer and Cesar's Marriage Proposal in Iceland

Image 1 of Jennifer and Cesar's Marriage Proposal in IcelandHow We Met: Cesar and I met in November 2013 on an Under30Experiences trip to Nicaragua that he was running. We spent several days together, but really I just hung out with the girls. The following February Cesar started messaging me, which turned into texting, and then 3 hour Skype calls every night (I was living in Raleigh and he in Managua) and we both started developing feelings for each other. Cesar was running a trip to Iceland that Memorial Day weekend and offered to meet me in Raleigh After his trip. I said yes.

On May 26th Cesar arrived at Dulles airport where I met him and as soon as I saw him I knew I was in love.

A week later Cesar moved in with me permanently.

how they asked: For Memorial Day 2015 Cesar and I went to Iceland – he was running the trip and I went along for fun. We had an amazing week in Iceland. The group was staying at a farm in the country and our 1 year anniversary was in 2 days. When we got to our room that night Cesar asked me to go on a walk with him around the farm. I changed out of my hiking clothes and met him outside where his colleague and friend Courtney was. Courtney was going to take photos on our walk.

As we walked we ran into some swings and I got on them and Cesar asked if I could get off because they were wet. We walked a little more and Courtney went off to chase some geese. Cesar looked at me and told me how much he loved me and how he had a gift for me – which I assumed was an anniversary gift. He pulled a ring box out of his pocket and I just knew – Cesar said that Iceland had so much meaning for our first chapter together and that our next chapter should involve Iceland too. Before I knew it he was done on one knee proposing! I was crying and said yes and didn’t even look at the ring! Next thing I knew the ring was on my finger, we were kissing (and crying) and Courtney had captured the whole thing!

We are excited to be getting married in Nicaragua next summer where it all started – and on my parent’s 32nd wedding anniversary – on June 11.
