How We Met
Alex and I met in college at the University of Connecticut (Go Huskies!). Even though we attended the same parties, were both in Greek Life, and hung out at the same spots on campus, we didn’t “officially” meet until the final semester of senior year. If you ask Alex, he’ll tell you I was scary and intimidating. In the spring of senior year, he decided to take a chance and invite me to his fraternity’s Valentine’s Day party. He very un-smoothly said “I invited 100 girls, but you are the number one on my list”. I politely declined his invitation. Luckily Alex was persistent and tried to strike up another conversation during spring break in Panama City beach (much smoother this time). This is when I saw how charming, funny, and easy to talk to he was. Fast forward to the end of senior year, we attended each other’s formals, hung out at Huskies bar, and on the very last day of school, Alex asked me to be his girlfriend.
How They Asked
As a huge Disney fan growing up, I had wanted nothing more but to go to Disney World as an adult… And I was VERY vocal about this (Alex would agree). Alex took it upon himself to plan a surprise trip to the happiest place on earth for “my birthday”. The big surprise was revealed on Mother’s Day. I opened a gift “from my dog Nellie”, which turned out to be Mickey Mouse ears. It took about ten seconds for me to figure out what this sneaky, wonderful man in front of me had booked. Fast forward two months to July 13th, where day 1 of our trip was spent at Animal Kingdom. We approached the Tree of Life and found a private spot to take a picture. To my surprise, Alex was down on one knee with my ring in his hands, and said “Will you marry me?”. We celebrated by laughing for about 15 minutes, and then going on the new Avatar ride (which was incredible by the way!). Animal kingdom was the perfect place for Alex to pop the question, I’m not much of a princess girl anyway!
