How We Met
Alex and I were lucky enough to have grown up together. We attended the same elementary, middle, and high school but never really crossed paths. It wasn’t until after high school, in September of 2012, both living in different towns, when we finally really met. A month later we added each other on Facebook, he wished me happy birthday and our friendship began. Since Alex was living in Ellensburg and I was still in Sequim, we didn’t get to spend too much time together the first year, but we had a lot of time to talk and really get to know each other. It was easy to see that this friendship was something special.
A year after we met, Alex moved back to Sequim but we were only able to see each other for a few short months until I moved to Kirkland for college. It wasn’t easy, but that didn’t stop us. Our friendship grew stronger and deeper through the 2 years I was away, with me taking frequent visits home and Alex taking a few visits to Kirkland. Finally, in 2015, I graduated with my B.A. and moved back to Sequim in May. It didn’t take long for Alex to ask me to be his after I moved back. Our relationship had flourished and we both saw each other as someone special. We were officially a couple as of June 25, 2015.
how they asked
I was laying down in bed, sleeping, being nice and warm in all of my blankets…then…BAM! I saw bright lights and Alex telling me to hurry up and get out of bed. It was 7:30 a.m. Christmas Eve and I was so nicely woken up with shining lights and Alex telling me to get dressed because he had brought one of our dogs over and we were going to take her on a walk. I quickly threw on my glasses and shoes and we headed out the door when I worriedly started asking Alex, “Uh, what about Eva (our 7 year old daughter)?” He kept telling me, “It’s okay. It’s taken care of.” which surprisingly didn’t make me feel any better. After continuing to say “I’m not leaving her!” He finally told me that my sister was in the other room and she would be watching her. We hopped in the car and drove to Port Williams Beach where he told me he was hurrying because he wanted to watch the sunrise with me. Isn’t he sweet? :)
We got there in time, walked, held hands, and I started picking up rocks to bring back to Eva. After I washed a few off, I turned back around and there was Alex, on one knee, smiling with my ring. I honestly can’t tell you much of what he said because I couldn’t stop looking at my ring. For real. It’s perfect.
One thing I do remember was him asking me to marry him and of course I said yes!!! We kissed, teared up and enjoyed our special moment, and headed back to my house where it started snowing. It was perfect and by far one of the best days of my life. I am so lucky to be marrying this man. He is most definitely the man of my dreams.
