How We Met: Adam and I met in 2012 on a dating website. Adam sent me the most thoughtful message about all the things it looked like we had in common and it was probably the only message I had received at that point that had any substance. After talking via text for about 3 weeks, we decided to have a drink after work. A drink turned into dinner and the conversation was so good – I knew he was special. On our second dinner date, I knew he was the one when he nervously knocked a candle off the table and into my lap. Everything I was wearing was ruined by the hot candle wax and he was mortified but all I could think about was how sweet and caring he was and how little I cared about my ruined clothes and shoes.
how they asked: New Orleans was our first vacation together, so it holds a special place in our heart. We planned a trip for the end of March and I had no idea that Adam was planning my dream proposal. Adam was already in New Orleans for a conference early that week, so I left NY on a very early morning flight, and met him there on Wednesday, 3/25. Shortly after arriving, I thought we were heading out to meet friends in Jackson Square, one of my favorite spots in New Orleans and go to lunch. I was super grumpy because I was pretty tired from my flight and had NO idea what Adam had planned for me.
When we got there, Adam and I sat on the fountain in front of St. Louis Cathedral and he began to reminisce about the last time we were in New Orleans and how much had changed for the better in our lives since the last time we were there. Then he looked me in the eyes and told me our friends weren’t coming, and that instead, he thought this was the perfect place to do something he had been planning to do for a very long time. As he reached for his pocket to pull out my ring, I finally realized what was going on and immediately began to cry.
He got down on one knee (in front of lots of clapping, cheering tourists) and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. After I said yes about 100 times, he told me the whole thing was being photographed so that my family could see the photos. I couldn’t believe what a beautiful day my guy had pulled off…what a great start to our life together!
