How We Met
We met online in September of 2016 when I was finishing up nursing school & he had just moved back to NJ from his hometown of Norwood, MA. We met on the Plenty of Fish dating app (& he still makes up a different story to this day of how we met). He messaged me on a Wednesday & that Saturday we had our first date which we ended up just hanging out at his house, watching tv, & talking for hours because his car died that morning & had to be towed away. To end our first date, I drove him to Firestone to pick up his car- called my best friend on the way home and said “I think I’m going to marry this guy.”
How They Asked
My family had weekend plans down the shore in Wildwood to see the Christmas lights. Billy had mentioned may be going on a date while we were down there since we had not been out in months (due to COVID, me being a nurse, & taking precautions) and to celebrate because I had just finished my second to last semester of my master’s program to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. I have always been obsessed with the sunrise & sunset so I mentioned going see the sunset before dinner, little did I know he had bigger plans.
My sister in law and my brother had gone out for “lunch” and texted my mom to see if she could dress the baby and meet them at sunset lake to take a nice picture in front of the Christmas tree. When she arrived, she saw my best friend & immediately knew what was happening even before she saw the beautiful display of “Marry Me” in bright lit up lights.
Billy & I arrived shortly after and when I got out of the car & saw those words lit up tears immediately began to flow. Billy said, “don’t cry because then I’ll start” & the rest we don’t really remember because we both were so excited, we blacked out & we’re not even positive if he asked me to marry him! I was so surprised, caught off guard, & so happy that this was finally happening. It was the best day ever!
