How We Met
Mauricio and I met almost 6 years ago and in the most unexpected way. Long story short: he liked one of my best friends in high school and on the night that we met, I gave him zero attention. A few weeks later he was sliding into my Twitter DM. I didn’t think much of it, I thought “well he is into my best friend so maybe he just wants to get to know her friends.” One thing lead to another and the next thing I knew he was asking for my number and making a bet about the Heat v. Knicks game (he is a Knicks fan and I am a Heat fan). I knew I had to ask my friend what this was all about and she told me to go for it! She was already talking to someone else and thought him and I would make a great couple and she was right!
how they asked
After living together for almost a year and being together for almost 6 years, I knew that I wanted to get married. We had talked a lot about it but it just never seemed like the right time and Mauricio wasn’t sold on the idea of marriage altogether. To be honest, I was happy that we moved in together and was getting used to the idea of just being committed to one another. Well to my surprise, over Mexican meal in our home, we started to talk about the future and when we wanted to have kids. The next thing I knew, he told me “well, let’s go buy a ring!” I thought he was playing around but the next day he reached out to my sister to help him get me a ring! Later that week he asked for my dad’s permission, we told our mothers and there was only one thing left to do; buy the ring. The next weekend role around and we woke up Saturday morning and headed to Beverly’s Jewelers in Ft. Lauderdale. I was lucky enough to fall in love with the first ring I saw. The minute we walked out of the jewelers he dropped down to one knee, he said he couldn’t wait any longer! Our story might not be the most conventional way of getting engaged but if you know Mauricio, you know this is exactly how it was meant to be. As he likes to say, “it was the easiest thing I have ever done.”
