How We Met: Kyle and I met in college! We were in the same biology class at Concordia University, Irvine – and we became fast friends. He was crushing on me, and I was crushing on him, but I had a boyfriend at the time.
After the first semester of our freshman year, Kyle ended up transferring to Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego (both he and I’s dream college). He continuously told me how great it was, which made me insanely jealous.
I eventually transferred down to PLNU as well after my freshman year, and fell in love with San Diego. About a year later, my boyfriend and I mutually broke up, and of course Kyle picked up the pieces.
Our first date was on Valentines Day (after he bribed me with chocolate covered pretzels), and six months later he asked me to be his girlfriend. We have been dating for 3 and a half years now, and in September of 2014 he pulled the biggest surprise ever! He asked me to become his wife, and of course I said yes!
how they asked: Well, I thought I was planning his 24th birthday weekend, but little did I know that he had an entirely different plan up his sleeve.
We were supposed to go to the Giants versus Padres game in San Diego on Friday the 19th (Kyle’s birthday was the 20th). Then we were going to stay the night and go out on Kyle’s birthday with all of our friends!
So, we spent the whole day down at Point Loma, enjoying the sunshine (blissfully unaware of everything else that was going on). Then we checked into the hotel and I started to get ready for dinner and the baseball game.
Kyle started to act really strange, and told me he was going to go pull the car around the front of the hotel while I finished curling my hair. I was a little confused why he would do that, but I was rushing to curl my hair so we wouldn’t be late – so I told him that was fine.
After I finished my hair I practically ran out of the hotel – and outside there was this HUGE limo, but no Kyle. I got a little angry because I was like “He’s supposed to be parked out front! Where is he?”. As I walked past the limo, the door swung open and my brother stepped out, followed by my mother and father.
I was so confused I didn’t even recognize them at first, but once they ushered me into the limo and gave me a note from Kyle, I instantly knew what was going on, and INSTANTLY started crying.
After a quick outfit change (thanks to my Mom and best friend Alyssa), we went to downtown San Diego. We stopped outside of Yard House and my best friend Alyssa was outside waiting for me.
I ran out and gave her a huge hug; she got in and gave me another note. These notes were so sweet, telling me how much he loved me, and how he couldn’t wait to spend the rest of his life with me.
Then we went to Sushi Deli 2 (where we had our first date on Valentine’s Day), and picked up my other best friend Taylor (who also had another note). And then we picked up his parents outside of Petco Park!
Once everyone was in the limo, (and had a drink) we were off to Coronado. Kyle and I’s first date ended at the Ferry Landing on Coronado Island, and once we hit the bridge I knew exactly where we were going.
Once we parked, I gave my mom and dad a hug, and practically ran to Kyle who was waiting for me on the pier.
He took my hand and told me “Let’s go for a walk”. I kindly punched his arm and told him (while practically crying) “You tricked me so good”. He just laughed, and we continued to walk down the pier.
Once we got to a place that didn’t have a ton of people around, he turned to face me. I honestly don’t remember much about what he told me, except for that he loved me so much, and that he wanted to be with me for the rest of our lives.
He got down on one knee, and I think I said “Yes!” before he even asked me (whoops!). But he said those words that every girl wants to hear, “Jenna, will you marry me?” It was most definitely the best day of my life!
