How We Met
We met when I was back in Nebraska for the holidays visiting from Los Angeles, CA and hit is off we continued our long distance relationship for 1.5 years before I made the move back home!
how they asked
Eric and I had the pleasure of traveling to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for my 30th Birthday. All inclusive resort, beautiful beaches, not a care in the world. Little did I know, I would soon be receiving the best Birthday present of my life! I woke up in the morning with a love letter from Eric. In the letter, Eric stated that we would be playing a game of 30 questions all day in celebration of my birthday. All throughout the day he would ask me questions covering stages of my life. My childhood, high school, college, L.A., and my lastly my future. Eric had typed out 30 questions that he asked me during random times – in our room, during breakfast, on the beach, at the bar and so on.
When sharing the proposal story this is usually the place where most people have asked me if I knew something was up. Eric and I have always created fun games to play when we travel or for one of our many trips to the beach so this wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for us. I still had zero idea what was coming… We had a “romantic” dinner set up in advance where we intended to get dressed up and have a beautiful night out together. Which also required us to drink the cervazas “lightly” that day and change out of the swimsuits we’ve been living in all week. Eric was in charge of setting up the reservations in advance. As we go down the elevator and start to approach the nice restaurant Eric turns to me and says, “Change of plans, we actually don’t have reservations made for us.” I naturally turn to him and say something along the lines of “Really, Eric, you forgot!?” in total annoyance. I mean, that was his one job!
At that point he tells me he has other arrangements made for us. As we continue to walk down the boardwalk of our resort towards the beach I notice a candle lit table for two in the sand with a huge heart drawn around it. Rose petals were all around it and Eric tells me that table is set up for us. When we get to the end of the boardwalk Eric turns to me and says, “Jenna, I don’t know if you’ve noticed today, but I’ve only asked you 29 questions.” As he starts reaching in his pocket I put together what was about to happen and I could feel my heart about to beat out of my chest!
Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! We both don’t remember much after that. He said it was the most nervous he has ever been in his life, even though he knew the answer to the question. It was the happiest moment of my life- there are no words to describe the feeling when your heart is so full. We celebrated with a champagne toast, 5 course meal on the beach, beautiful sunset, and endless patron shots commemorating one of the best nights of our lives!
