How We Met
From Alex: Jen and I met at a mutual friend’s wedding, and somehow I was smart enough to not let her slip away. I didn’t know what i was doing, but I knew I was exactly where i wanted to be. We spent more and more time with each other, learning, laughing, and living. Every couple thinks they’re special, but we just knew we were happy. I’ve found the woman I want to explore the world with. I’ve found the person i can’t imagine being without. I’ve found my life.
From Jen: I had given up for “the one” before I met Alex, and I had no intention of falling in love, with anyone. Lo-and-behold, right as I stopped looking, along comes Alex. We met at the wedding of our mutual friends, Karrah & Raleigh. My close friend was my plus 1 that evening (as I said before, I had given up on men). She spotted this “cute guy” walking across the lawn, and as fate would have it, he was seated at the same table as us. I didn’t bother striking up a conversation, but luckily my friend did. The more I heard him talk, the more I started to like this new stranger. He was laid back, had an infectious laugh, and was someone who was so easy to talk to (when I finally decided to stop being stubborn and talk to another from the male species). It was so nice, and refreshing. I had no intentions of making anything out of this newly sparked relationship except a friendship, but it easily bloomed into something bigger than I could have imagined.
I went to Iceland for a week after that wedding, and when I got back, Alex sent me a message asking me out for a motorcycle ride (he later told me, that once he found out I rode motorcycles, he needed to ask me out on a date ASAP (as motorcycles are his favorite thing on the planet)). Funny thing was, I didn’t even realize it was a date. But after getting lost in the middle of no where, eating at a restaurant with gold fish toppings (on the salad), closing down the restaurant from talking so long, jump starting my motorcycle in the empty lot at night, laughing like kids, bringing me up to the tallest point to see the city and stars, catching fireflies at 3am, and finally, when he kissed me at the end of the night, I kissed him back. I realized then, I could really like this guy, and we were in fact, on a date (lol) .We have been inseparable ever since.
How They Asked
From Jen: Two years later, he asked me to marry him at the Boundary Waters, near the Canadian border. His mother, Gail, told him not to bring a engagement ring (for the fear of losing it), so what does Alex do? Carve one out of wood of course. One more thing to add to the list of, “things I love about Alex”, his ability to create something out of nothing.
He is my rock, my best friend, the most dependable person, the best doggie dad ever, the list goes on…I can’t imagine life without him in it, and I don’t want to!
From Alex: The boundary waters is like another world to us. It’s a place of simple beauty, which the rest of the planet seems to have not noticed yet. Our first trip was pre-planned with about 12 hours notice, and it quickly became our favorite place. Two more trips, and I decided it was the only place i could imagine asking her to spend her life with me, so I carved her an oak ring, and asked her to join mine.
