How We Met
I just got off work and had work early the next morning. My friend asked if I wanted to go to SF for the battle of the bay baseball game. I said no. No, because I was tired. My friend told me to be ready in an hour because he was going to pick me up. Evan was asked by his friends to go to the battle of the bay game as well. He had just gotten off 6 days in a row of work and he did not want to attend. His friends forced him to go. Our friends’ groups were planning on meeting up. I was told that a guy named “Hadley” would hit on me. I shrugged it off. Once I got there, I immediately needed to be introduced to him. He bought me a beer and we hit it off instantly. We have been inseparable since!
How They Asked
I am a teacher trying to navigate distance learning during this COVID time. I had been beyond stressed and Evan decided to take me on a weekend getaway to relax. He purposely said he found a hotel room with a big bathtub so I can take a long relaxing bath. He kept bringing that up in conversation until we left for our trip. He surprised me by not saying where we were going, but we ended up in Napa. We stayed at the Senza hotel and checked in after a little wine tasting at a local winery.
As we were relaxing on our porch, I decided it was time to take that long bath he kept hinting at. I heard Evan rustling around in the room as I was soaking but didn’t think twice about it. He told me to text him when I was done with the bath. I was questioning why but didn’t ask him. Finally, I got out of the tub and dressed. I texted him and he told me I could come out. As I opened the door, I immediately noticed tiny tea light candles lit in a path on the floor.
As I turned the corner, I saw many more tea light candles leading a path to where we were standing on the other side of the room. As I was walking to him, I noticed on the curtains was a video being played. He had the lantern scene from Tangled where “I See the Light” was playing (my favorite movie scene). He grabbed my hands and said a sweet speech. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said, “are you serious?!” Then I said yes!
