How We Met
Throughout my undergraduate experience at the University of North Dakota, I was on the Hockey Cheer Team. The hockey cheer team not only attended all of the hockey games, we also attended different events around town to interact with the hockey fans. During my Junior year of college and my fiancé’s Freshman year, the cheer team and I went to the Grand Forks Community Skate at the Ralph Engelstadt Arena. This event allows anyone to skate around the famous hockey arena with both the hockey players and the cheerleaders. After taking pictures with some fans, a few teammates and I were skating around the rink when we noticed a guy doing figure skating tricks in hockey skates.
We immediately skated over to him and his friends to find out more about this madness! We all made small-talk about where we were from and what our skating backgrounds were, but shy me skated away from the conversation after a few minutes. A little while later, this guy came back over to me and asked if I had ever done pair skating before.
When I told him that I had never had the opportunity, he asked if he could teach me. I was so excited! He taught me how to do a few tricks and we skated together for a while. Little did I know, while we were practicing the pair spin his friends were sneaking pictures of us! He and his friends had a bet going whether or not he could get my number since he had his eye on me for a while at this point. Long story short, I gave him my number.
How They Asked
During the summer of 2017, Nic (my fiancé), my mom, and I went on a trip to Ireland. I really wanted to go back since this is where I studied abroad when Nick and I first met. We traveled all around Dublin, Limerick, and the countryside of Ireland.
When we were at the Cliffs of Moher, my mom was taking a picture of me facing the ocean. When I turned around after the picture, Nic was right there down on one knee. It was the most magical moment. I am so excited to have the opportunity to marry my best friend of 5 years on July 27, 2019!
