Jared and Brittani
How We Met
Jared and I met in 2012 as we attended high school together in Northern Virginia. We had a chemistry class together and sat next to each other and started to chat so much during the lessons that our teacher had to literally separate us! Ever since then, we’ve become inseparable, even throughout our transition together at Howard University where we both graduated in May 2019.
How They Asked
During Christmas Day 2019, Jared gifted me an envelope. As I opened it up, a 3D pop-up of the Effiel Tower ascended with two tickets to Disneyland Paris. Inside, a note read “I couldn’t think of a better way to bring in the New Year with you. See you in Paris…” I was over the moon as I read the letter attached with a Delta Airlines trip itinerary which noted our first-class Delta One flights to Paris that departed in less than 48 hours!
When we arrived at the love capital of the world, we shopped, ate, and drank plenty. On New Years Day, Jared woke up at 6 am and pressed me to get ready and dress my best. At first, I was taken back because why would we ever wake up on vacation in Paris at 6 am?! But I soon realized that we were going to Trocadéro to watch the sunrise.
We up with Lina and Tuan, a photographer and videographer, who introduced themselves and stated that we were going to have a photoshoot. As the morning went along, we were advised that there was a second location in the city that we were going to take pictures at.
As we arrived at our second photoshoot location and walked up the steps of a rooftop, I was taken back by the sight of red balloons and the sound of a saxophone playing my favorite song, “Can You Stand the Rain” by New Edition. As we reached the top of the steps, I was taken back by the gorgeous red carpet lined with roses, a giant love letter draped with curtains along the wall, and a breath-taking, unobstructed view of the Effiel Tower and the rest of Paris. As we soaked in the moment, anticipating what was about to come next, Jared began professing his love, went down on one knee, and asked, “Will you marry me?”. Trying to hold my emotions together, I exclaimed, “Of course!”, finally solidifying the journey to marrying the love of my life.
After our engagement, we were accompanied by champagne and brunch. Soaking in the gorgeous rooftop views of the city and surrounded by dozens of bouquets. We continued to capture this special moment with our photographer as we toured the city in a chauffeured Rolls Royce Phantom to various locations and cruised for the rest of the day off into the sunset with my new fiancee.
