How We Met: We first met in person, at an airport in Amarillo, Texas on March 31, 2012. After an 8 year long friendship over the phone, internet, and video chat, we finally decided to take the next step and meet in person. Yes, MTV’s Catfish was in the back of our minds. But to our relief, it was love at first sight. It’s hard to explain the feeling that overcomes your body and mind when you fall in love for the first time. It wasn’t a thought, I just remember running to him, and he picked me up and carried me around the airport for at least 10 minutes!
After an amazing week being with Patrick I went back home. He asked me to be his girlfriend the week after and a few months after that I decided to move to Texas to be with him. Long story short, we’ve been dating for 3 years now, and are happily engaged with a wedding date set for October 3rd, 2015!
how they asked: Except for me, there are not a lot of things in the world that Jane loves more than Disneyland. For as long as I have known her, she has always wanted a proposal at her favorite place in the universe. That was the easy part! After a failed Valentines Day proposal, I knew that the next trip to Disneyland would be it!
We walked around the park and did our usual Disney routine, little did she know today was the day. Jane found a Pandora Store over in New Orleans Square and bought a special limited edition Disney charm! I surprised her with reservations to the Blue Bayou. At the dinner table, Jane looked into my eyes and asked “Bubba, are you going to ask me to marry you today?” She was sure I was going to ask her sometime during dinner. I shook my head and said “No baby!” Getting nervous, thinking… she’s onto me. After lunch, we walked up to Main Street, I pretended I wanted to look into a shop I’ve never seen before, but then directed her to the main street train station and told her I wanted to take a picture.
I hired Jeff Jacobs, an amazing photographer, to capture my proposal, a couple days before we actually went. I spotted him standing on the curb and led her to him. I tried my best to play it off like I had no idea who he was, and just asked him to take a picture of us with my phone. He made a joke that he doesn’t know how to work iPhones, to stall me some time, because I was SO nervous I could barely get the ring out of my pocket! I took Jane’s face and pulled her close to me, and began my proposal.
I told her “I cannot live my life without you, you are everything to me. I love you so much” I was squeezing her hand so tight… and the wrong hand at that. She just smiled at me with her big glowing eyes.
I asked if she would be my wife and she said yes! She pulled her right hand away and replaced it with her left hand so I could put the ring on!
There was a crowed surrounding us by this time. After she said yes I picked her up and the crowed went wild, clapping, whistling, and even recording.
