How We Met
Bobby and I met a few years before we started dating. My cousin married one of his best friends so we met casually a few times before. One night, I met with my cousin and her husband for drinks at the cutest little dive bar and when everyone else left, Bobby and I decided to stay. That night was so comfortable and easy and I couldn’t wait to hear from him. Almost three days went by and I hadn’t heard from Bobby. I met with one of my best friends for lunch and she told me, “Just text him!”. I decided to make the first move and text him after lunch. He always tells me he was going to text me that night while he was on shift, he is a career firefighter 😍. I don’t know if I believe him, but I am so happy that I decided to text him. Since that day, Bobby never stopped showing up for me and showing me what it means to unconditionally love someone. He would tell me, ” Watch, I am going to marry you one day”. I never believed him.
How They Asked
The never-ending joke with both of our families was, “When is Bobby going to propose?” We had only been exclusively dating just under two years but we all knew that this was it for the both of us, so why wait, right? Bobby took me to pick out my ring and I couldn’t be more excited to know that it was coming so soon. Weeks and weeks passed and I waited, and waited, and waited.
One day he told me we were going to go to the shore to meet my cousin and her husband, who are the reason we are where we are today, for lunch. Bobby was acting strange the entire car ride. He was hiding his phone, randomly smiling, and anytime I would ask, he would get red. When we missed the exit to the restaurant, I started getting suspicious. He ended up taking me to a doc where we always go to have breakfast or just to hang out.
He went in the backseat when we got there and put on a nicer sweater over his fireman work t-shirt that he always wears. As we walked out to the end of the doc I said, “OMG, is this happening?”. He smiled and walked me out to the end and got down on one knee. He had my cousins waiting in the car taking pictures and videos. We got to celebrate with our family and friends afterward. It was the best day of my life!
